I may be incorrect but I thought they where separate, I always thought you just got your PAC code used it and it terminated the old one.
As a general rule you just pay 1 more bill after you use the PAC code rather than after the request of the PAC code.

As far as I'm aware getting a PAC code and cancellation request are the same as no matter what if you don't use the PAC code the account will keep rolling over.

I'm not 100% what it is you're saying although your first sentence seems to agree with me rather than disagree?

PAC code and cancellation requests are entirely separate, if you cancel then it will turn off, requesting a PAC code by itself will not termiate the contract unless you actually use it. Then the 30 day notice will kick in with most I believe. Giffgaff just cancel it down when the PAC is used ad remove your payment details.

    I'm still not getting it.

As I understand it if I give notice on 1st February and ask for a PAC , even if I wait 25 days to use the PAC I still pay for a further 30 days which means I end up paying on the old account and new account.

\that does seem to be what EE have told me.
If you ask for the PAC on the 1st Feb and use it on the 25th Feb, at worst they 'may' charge you til the 30th Feb. Most companies, if not all will stop charging you on the 25th Feb when it is used.

Think of a PAC as an 'option to cancel' that expires after 30 days.
Obtaining a PAC is not a cancellation, unless it is used.

Request to go on the lowest tariff first before requesting to cancel and it can mean you are paying less for the cancellation period after you have used the PAC code

Just make sure when you get your next bill, it's what they offered on the phone.
