From debt to freedom...

It’s been a lovely week off work and with these temperatures we’ve had, I’m very thankful I wasn’t at Job 1!

Lots of time has been spent in the garden and at the allotment. Frustratingly something has munched all of my pea plants at the allotment so it’s back to sowing more seeds to try and raise more seedlings.

Payday was on Friday, so monies have been shuffled around in readiness for all the direct debits to come out tomorrow.

In the next couple of months I have a wedding to attend at the other end of the country, DH’s birthday, DD4’s birthday and DS2’s birthday and my car’s MOT to consider financially speaking. Not quite so much chance to save up for accommodation but intending to knuckle down then to get to saving for September’s rent. I could also do with getting an eye test booked and a filling done on my teeth so feeling the need to make every penny count. On the wedding front, travel tickets have been booked as has the overnight accommodation we’ll need so just need to pay for breakfast food and any drinks we have on the day.

Time is flying by…For Job 1 it’s the busiest month of the year so trying to get through the to do list!! Off to a wedding this weekend but travel and accommodation costs have already been paid for. My aim is to get through as much work between now and tomorrow afternoon and then go off for the weekend and leave the work laptop at home, for a proper weekend break!

Looking forward to exploring more of another part of the country.

Can’t believe it’s the end of June already! It was lovely to get away to the wedding and explore somewhere new. The journey up was eventful not least because we decided the best thing time wise was to fly and get a hire car to access the wedding venue. All was planned and paid for but unfortunately the hire car was booked through an intermediary by DSIL and the hire car company wouldn’t fulfill it. At one point I thought we’d be spending the night on the pavement! Despite DSIL putting in his age and having already paid for it, they said no. It had to be someone over 30 ( he’s 29). I offered to be the driver and was told it would be a new booking and would require a £4.5k deposit! At that point I went out to speak with DH , who was with the luggage. As soon as DH walked in the car hire man was totally different. He got a car sorted for us. It cost us twice as much as DSIL had already paid but not the deposit that had been mentioned. I found it quite sobering that we had planned, budgeted and booked for the weekend but this went over the planned budget.

I rarely go away from home, partly because I’ve not been able to afford holidays ( last proper holiday was 2012!) and partly because I’m fortunate to live where I do. I’ve had odd overnight stays for graduations or taking a DD to uni but that has been it. This experience of suddenly having to find a lot more money than planned does put me off being away!

Anyway …the wedding was lovely!

I seem to have financially limped to the end of the month and am very glad that pay day has arrived. My focus now has to be firmly on saving through the summer to get ahead in paying DD’s rent in the Autumn.

What an awful experience with the hire car! And even worse that the demeanour changed when a man appeared. Is it worth a letter of complaint?

I'm glad the wedding was lovely though, and you got time away in a new place - and that it's nearly summer holidays!

2 days to go until the end of term and I am glad to be at the end of term. We have been expecting “the call” all term which makes for a weekly cycle of build up and anticipation and then the “ ok not this week then” feeling. It’s been a challenging term in other ways so all told, I am looking forward to Thursday.

Finance wise…I’m consciously sending £20 or £30 a week to debts or savings from my Job 2 wages before I spend anything else. I’m thinking that every little chips away and the sooner it will be gone.

Youngest DD has finished school now and started a supermarket job for the summer with the exhortation to save as much as possible.

Fab shes got a job whichever it is.
