From debt to freedom...

I’m glad you made it to church HSL. Ours opened to public worship on Sunday and can hold up to 39 ‘bubbles’ but again, the no singing was difficult for those who went. I prefer to stay at home ATM because I can’t imagine the ambience of being there and not taking part. My friend said she will stick to our zoom services as she finds those more interactive than physically being there. Ours also do Holy Communion At 8am so we can go before the Eucharist service for that if we do wish. I am hoping to make it this week but I’m rarely up that early these days.🙈
Good luck with the new routine. I hope you find a good balance through it all. Xxformerly “magicgirl”Proud to be Member of BSC #92Hoping to get debt free againworking hard to make my daughters proud8 -
Thank you DAL and Magicgal.
Can’t believe a week has passed so quickly! The shift at job no 2 went well on Monday. I’d worked there before many years ago, so it was more a case of reminding myself where everything was. I had a couple of evening shifts, with an old colleague from years ago, so we had a good chat whilst dashing about the kitchen. It looks like I’ll be paid weekly, once all the relevant forms have been filled in, but in the meantime, I was able to take home £20 in tips which will all help. I have used £14 to buy a waterproof suit for DS3, the last outstanding part of his uniform, needed for Forest School. The rest will go into savings. It looks like I’ll have a couple of shifts a week, some on days I’m at job no 1, so some quite intense long days ahead.
I stumbled upon the Dave Ramsey site this evening quite by accident and now realise why I’ve seen the phrase “ gazelle intense” used on other people’s diaries. I certainly need to be very focussed at the moment.
Today has been glorious, the type of day, I would normally want to spend at the allotment or on the beach. I had a fair amount of taxiing of children to do and a few things in prep for work, so haven’t got out as much as I’d hoped. I have got several loads of washing dried, which I am thankful for. A carrot cake has been made for dessert and pasties for main course. I’d run out of cocoa powder so didn’t get any brownies done that DS3 wanted but did have the ingredients for flapjack, to which I added a cooking apple that had been grated and a generous spoonful of mixed spice. DS1 is trying to save money so had bought some rice and minced beef and pork for his lunches. He wanted me to teach him “how to make some lunches with it”, but didn’t bother to move from his bedroom. I ended up trying to put together a sort of beef curry, but I’ve never cooked with beef and pork minced together before. Whether the texture of it was due to the mix of meats or whether it was because it was frozen ( and defrosted) prior to cooking with it, but I found it odd to cook with.
Hoping that this week will be a case of settling down into the new routine...we seem to have been all at sea, so far this month.paydbx2025 #26 £890/£5000 . Mortgage start £148k June 23 - now £138k.

It sounds tiring but financially what a good idea to get a second job where you get tips. Can't believe we've never thought of suggesting that before. Daughter is at college with an accountant's daughter and she has a job waitresing because accountant Dad pointed out that at her age she'd get the min wage at most places, but work in retail and she'd just get her wages work as a waitres you'll get tips too. Daughter would love to do same but she's at college in a tourist area, whereas where we live isn't and more limited opportunities.
Pork and Beef mixed mince sounds odd, I don't think I've ever seen it before. What did it taste like? I never think pork lends itself well to curries, but I'd have also been stumped as to what sort of things to do with it5 -
I have tried pork mince and turkey mince but didn't like either. They definitely had a different texture.
Well done on the second job and how lovely to get tipsAchieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Thank you Spendless, SH & Cherryfudge.
I didn’t taste the pork and beef curry myself, but DS1 ate it up, so either he was very hungry or it was ok in the end. Just a very odd texture.
This week has been busy - 2 days a week, I’m at both jobs, so good for NSDs, I haven’t got time to do anything but focus on the job at hand! I have about 20 minutes to change, grab a cup of tea and a banana, then straight out of the door again. Thursday was interesting as the 10pm regulation came in. My boss had bought all staff a clear see through visor type face covering to wear, which I much prefer. We have had to adjust the serving times for food to make sure that everyone is cleared up and out by 10.
Job number 2 is paid weekly, so I was surprised to get a payslip by email, that’s a new one for me! Unfortunately the pay has yet to reach my account, so am waiting on that. My intention is to use £12.50 a week to go to the Help to Save account and the rest to go on debt payments. When last week’s money reaches my account, it will go on the cost of going to the opticians. My salary from Job number 1 covers mortgage, utility bills, car running costs, EF savings of £30 a month, union fees and legal fees. This week’s tips came to £15 which I have put into a savings account.
DD1 has gone away for a week to see her boyfriend. I’m hoping she will be able to get back okay as the restrictions seem to be changing on a daily basis.
I’ve started harvesting the Bramley apples from the tree and made Apple Amber this week. It always feels like Autumn has properly arrived when Apple Amber is made and soup is bubbling away on the hob! We had our first fire in the log burner last night which was cosy and watched Peter Rabbit with the little ones.
I’ve ordered some oil which should come this week so that we can use the heating when it gets colder. It was such a luxury when the boiler was fixed in February, I haven’t got the extra worry now of trying to make sure the house is warm enough.
Lots of washing done yesterday and dried outside. Hoping to get outside today as much as I can.
Have a good Sunday everyone.paydbx2025 #26 £890/£5000 . Mortgage start £148k June 23 - now £138k.

Isn't it odd how the more you work, the less opportunity there is to spend money? Not across the board of course, extra work hours have their own costs, but the little extras like popping out for milk.
It sounds as though you have it down to a fine art. Just don't run out of bananas!
