Thank you SH, Cherryfudge and XSpender.
Seeds were sown yesterday - cerinthe and cornflowers - and will crack on with the veg seeds today. Interestingly
I did see seeds for a type of quinoa in one seed catalogue. Thought that might be an interesting one to grow.
Made a payment off a debt this morning so am now £72 less in debt🙂. Small steps...paydbx2025 #26 £890/£5000 . Mortgage start £148k June 23 - now £138k.

Ended up at work today...extra tasks to be prepared for these interesting times we find ourselves in. I hadn’t factored this in to my to do list for today but a few hours got much sorted out.
I got the cornflowers, mangetout and Nigella seedlings moved to the allotment greenhouses I’m running out of room on window sills! The tomatoes I moved there last week looked ok but have perhaps suffered a little with the colder nights. I used a plastic lid to balance and create another layer of protection. I went a bit sowing crazy then and sowed cucumbers, courgettes and butternut squash seeds. I’ll keep them at home for a few weeks before moving to the allotment as I know cold temperatures would damage the young plants.

They sound marvellous! If my windowsills weren't already full of plants, I'd have trays of seedlings there too.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Well, you are making better progress than me! 😂 well done on the reduction. Each reduction is going to benefit you after all.(I’ve had to change my account due to the changes a few months back but still magicgirl at heart)
will have a proper read to catch up over the last few months but from the last posts, it sound like things are good. I hope that’s the case. Xxformerly “magicgirl”Proud to be Member of BSC #92Hoping to get debt free againworking hard to make my daughters proud6 -

Thank you Cherryfudge, Magicgal & CCL.
I think I might have been a bit premature when I wrote that CCL. I’ve had 10 days ish of backing off, then yesterday he was here, taking a bath ( using a towel then dumping it on the floor) so back to as it was. Enough time for me to start to relax...
DD1 tells me that her uni have shut for lectures now. She seems to think her graduation in July is in doubt due to the virus. I did offer to go and get her but she wants to stay near the library there, as she’s in the middle of lots of work for her last year. She has tried to buy loo roll for days so I’ve ended up having to get some to post to her!
No idea what to expect at work tomorrow. We’ve had to prepare for some children learning at home. Friday did shock me as to how the shelves were being depleted in shops, which in turn does make me grateful for each meal awe are eating at the moment.
I did get out for a walk today with DS3 and the elderly lurcher. In the midst of the confusion and worry about the virus, it was good to hear the birds singing, the clouds in the sky, the warmth of the sun on our faces and the sight of new green leaves unfurling on the trees.

Hi HSL - posting loo roll! You never would have believed that 3 months ago. It's a good time to be growing your own food. Perhaps I should follow your example and get some grow bag ready and some seed and pots. I used to do a bit - but now tend to stick with the low effort version of fruit trees.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Thank you SH. I remember reading the foreword of Hugh Fernley Whittingstall’s first book when it came out 20 years ago. He was basically pointing out about dependence on supermarkets and that even if you grew a window box of lettuces, you weren’t totally dependent. Can’t recall the exact phrase but that was the gist of it. Not that I’m knocking supermarkets - they are working flat out- but being able to do a little bit at home helps.
I did have a good look at the allotment on a Sunday, trying to break down jobs into smaller chunks. Top priority is a bit of pruning on the gooseberry plants, just so that the bush isn’t a mass of thorny branches. I should probably have done this earlier in the year but better late than never. I think I might use one bed just for growing potatoes. Not tried potatoes before but so many varieties available to grow, it’s worth a try.paydbx2025 #26 £890/£5000 .
