Sky going on standby

Options
Every now & then we get a message on our TV saying the sky box is going to go in to standby mode while we're watching TV.

Just wondering how we go about stopping that because i don't remember my mother's Sky box throwing up that message.

Press the Services button on your Sky remote.
    Press 5 for Sky+ Setup.
Push up twice to highlight Auto Standby.
Push left (or right) once to change ON to OFF.
Push down once to highlight Save New Settings and press Select.
Push the Sky button to return to whatever you were watching.

In this instance Google would be my practical joker of a friend.

    I pressed Services
    I pressed 5 ... nothing happened.
I've tried looking for an auto standby but found nothing. Not to say it isn't there, it has to be, i must've missed it.

Unless the guide you found was from before they updated their whole menu setup?

That is possible, I can't get the remote off the wife at the moment to check but it should be in there somewhere.
  • Hi,

that link is from Feb 2011, so things may have changed.

Is this a new Sky box you've got?

Regards that Eco mode. I've taken a look.

So let's say i'm watching a program in the morning. It's 10am (random time selected there). I'm done with it & don't watch TV again that day.

Does that mean the Sky box wont go in to standby mode until some time in the early hours of the following morning? So it'll be 'on' for 14-16 hours plus?

I don't know how long it takes at the moment, but i know at least on my mothers once she's finished watching a programe & she turns the TV off, the Sky box will put itself on standby after a while & not the early hours (& doesn't give her warnings in the middle of programs either).

If it's possible, i obviously don't want warnings in the middle of programs but i don't want it to be 'on' for most of the day either.

I know what the poster said after you but yeah this will be a new box since we had Sky installed back in August of this year.

The options are explained here, see number 5 in the left column:

Yes, I didn't check the date, apologies :o

Although at least I now know what the Eco Mode does as previously I've just ignored it. Rebooting the box every morning won't do any harm.

I think I got most of my information from the link in post #7.

EDIT: It certainly works as the Sky box is on channel 998 'Sky Intro' this morning.

Just for info, that should NOT be the case after ECO mode has re-booted your box overnight.
It should return to the channel you left when you last switched off unless there is a software upgrade.

If your box continues to default to channel 998 each morning, then you need to investigate why, as it might well indicate a fault.

You are obviously unaware that pressing the power button on the remote will switch the box to standby manually. You (and your Mother) should already be doing this after every viewing session or you are wasting electricity.
