Im not returning to proper decluttering until 2017!''A moment's thinking is an hour in words.'' -Thomas Hood0 -
Count me in on this one. We've already made a start but I want to aim for 2017+ more things this coming year.

Hi,
Thanks for the new thread. I don't know if there are 2017 things to get rid of from the house, but I certainly want to stop things from coming in. Over the past couple of days we've taken a bag of stuff to the charity shop, removed an unwanted bookcase from the spare bedroom, I've started a rag bag of old clothes and DH has sorted out the box of old wires and electrical things that just seem to hang around. We'll be taking a trip to the recycling centre as soon as we can, probably next weekend.
In 2016 we decluttered the garage so much that now we actually keep the car in it!0 -
Just found this thread. We are having major clear outs as we sort out the !!!!-tip of a house following Christmas. We have packaging ready for recycling and binbags ready to go to the tip. It's just getting it there as they are a distance away now. I'm going to try and sell things first - but whatever we make towards my debt but if that fails it will be bagged to a CS for them to make use.N - £4531.62/£4655.15 (plus interest monthly)
T - £1700/£2617.80 (interest free)
V - £216.89/£216.89 (plus interest monthly)0 -
Just sold a book on Amazon £11.22 - so that will be my first thing out of the house (OOTH). Trouble is I can't find it. Just searched through two boxes of books - so will have to return to the search after a visit to the shops (without any clutter).0

I have just stumbled onto this thread and as I work through KD think this will also be a good aid for me. I have never hear of the toothbrush principle but will research it more.
I think a lot of my clutter/hoarding stems from being in debt and hanging onto things either just in case i needed them and not have the money to replace - even things that would cost 5p, buying things because they were a bargain and not letting go of things for cheap because i paid good money for it.
This last year I have come along way but recognise that even if I only manage to sort a few things one week then this is fine, it is not a race. The girls want a hamster and this is now going to be my Easter challenge. [i will then hopefully have a new one for summer, Halloween and Christmas].
I'm not the best doing it by numbers of items as my motivation and mood level fluctuates too much.so i think i will do my be time. Keeping with the 2017 theme, my aim to do the equivalent of at least 33 mins and 37 secs a week [2017/60] . I have set a countdown timer on my phone. Never done it like this before so will see how it goes!Don’t put it down - put it away!

We are awash with books (several hundred need to go) and have a back shed that is packed to the roof with 'stuff'. If I add in the paperwork I must get shredded (I'm going to count a sackful as one item and there's an awful lot of it), the junk in the car, the allotment shed, my excess weight (I'm going to count each complete half-stone as one item  (am I allowed that?), my DSs' clutter that they want to get rid of... etc etc. I'm hoping that we'll hit the 2017 mark without struggling too much - at least that's the intention!

^^ I have the same issue. I kept a lot of stuff when I was out of work and had no money, then I got a job and still held onto the stuff just in case I lost said job (it took me years to find one). I am now slowly coming round to thinking that I don't need it all and I can now afford to buy again if I accidentally do get rid of something that I need in future. I think when you have lived off nothing/are in debt it is very hard to get around the fact that you don't need to keep everything 'just in case' as you know you couldn't afford to replace it once thrown away.I'm not the best doing it by numbers of items as my motivation and mood level fluctuates too much.so i think i will do my be time. That is a brilliant idea, put like that half hour a week is nothing.Broomstick wrote: »my excess weight (I'm going to count each complete half-stone as one item  (am I allowed that?),
Great suggestion, I don't see why not. It is your list you can put what you like on it.
As I see it the only thing that isn't allowed is general rubbish that gets thrown out anyway. I am not including 'rubbish' that has been put away previously when it was usable and cleared out, for example I sorted out our medicines and have thrown the out of date ones, I have included them on my list.0 -
Please can I join in too-I made a start yesterday by getting rid of 4 full shopping bags to local charity shops and want to keep building on that-don't know how many items but at least 20,:D0

Hey folks! I started a de-cluttering project last year and it has already made a considerable difference, but I still think there's more I can do. I occasionally glanced at the 2016 topic during my lurking days, but now I'm registered I can join in! Having originally seen the topic early last year, I did start keeping a list of what went, and I made it up to 1,167 items. I don't think I'll get close to that this year, and 2,017 items is certainly not in my sights, but I'll start a new list on Sunday and see how things go.0
