    Yes, it will depend on how the cashier actioned the exchange and/or the store it was made by.

    With JL recently I've had faulty headphones (18 months into a 2 year guarantee) exchanged for a new pair, with a completely new guarantee. Normally the guarantee would start from the original date, but JL have gone above and beyond.


    Legally, the original purchase date stands on consumer rights and guarantees, unless the retailer gives anything in addition to that.
  • As already answered, the original 30 day period still stands however it won't necessarily matter.

    Under the Consumer Rights Act you need only give the trader 1 opportunity to repair/replace. If after that a fault develops (same fault or not) you don't need to allow them further chances to repair/replacement. You can if you want but you don't have to.

    At that point you could insist on rejecting the items for a refund (which may not be full refund depending on the use you've had by this point) or keeping the items with the fault and negotiatiing a price reduction to reflect this lower value.
