Amazon refusing to exchange gift

  • Twice in two years amongst a host of orders/gifts is not repeatedly.

However if Amazon want the original order number, I am afraid you will have to matter of factly ask your mother for it. Just tell her there has obviously been some kind of mistake on Amazon's part and you need to return it. I don't see that it would be more than slightly upsetting. She'd probably be a lot more upset if she spent this kind of money and you continued to be unable to use it because its the wrong bag.

I think you are getting locked into a point of view over amazon's reaction that won't get you anywhere positive. However much you disagree with what Amazon has done, there is only one way to achieve a resolution. Ask your mother for the number.

The figure is twice last year, once the year before and the one which is the subject of this thread. That's repeatedly in my opinion.

Most customers won't even know about (let alone avail themselves of) this customer service .

It's an Amazon offer which goes above and beyond what they are required by law.

They allow an exchange (or even refund) to recipients who are not the actual customer who purchased!

It's wide open to abuse and it's hardly surprising that they've had to clamp down on it.

The difference between returning something to M&S or Debenhams is that these items would have the store's brand label, but Amazon does not have a brand label, so no proof the item was bought from them, without the easily found order number. (Your account keeps track of purchases from way back).

I needed to return some Panasonic phones (wrong base in the box) but the account was in my husband's name and the call centre staff was not allowed to deal with me, even though purchase was made on a joint debit card, addressed to me.

The simple solution was to add me to the account and an exchange was made within days.

True of M&S but not necessarily so for Debenhams, who sell many brands in addition to their own.

The majority of brands in Debenhams bar Ben Sherman and Fred Perry are their own though - everyone from John Rocha to the others are exclusive designs for them and thus with the tags inside them can easily be identified as theirs on their till systems.

A Christmas gift I bought turned out to be damaged. Amazon sent the replacement direct to the recipient the following day. This is the second time I've had to get a replacement (the first one was a while ago when an order went missing) and I found the process amazingly easy.

Of course they want the order number. Why would one not give it to them?
  • Op seeing we've established what actually happened are you going to correct you're completely misleading thread title?

Perhaps you need to have a better look at what Debenhams sell, my Wrangler jeans came from there and I don't think you'd claim that is an in-house brand.

All seems quite fair from Amazon, at least to me anyway.
