    Thanks all for your replies. The bags I've filled have Clothes Aid printed on. Collecting for Macmillan Cancer Support.

    There's a note printed on the bags that says;

    Warning: The contents of this bag, having been given by the householder, are the property of Clothes Aid which is fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support. Only authorised Clothes Aid collectors are permitted to collect this bag. If you are not authorised by Clothes Aid or Macmillan Cancer support to remove this bag or its contents, you are committing a criminal offence and may be prosecuted :eek:

    Really?

    I think I'll take them to a local Hospice shop but I'll have to put them into other bags first....

    Surely that is a warning to people who may come and, yes, steal the bag full of clothes from your doorstep when you've left it out to be collected?

    Fair enough, you may not like the organisation's methods, but I don't really get why that note is so shocking?

    There was a newspaper story , a while back (don't know if it was an online daily or our local paper) where a plain white van went round ahead of the official collectors and took all the bags put out.

    Apparently this was happening (or even still happening) quite regularly. I'm not sure but I think it happened once in my road, as I saw someone driving a plain white van picking up charity bags and a few hours later a sign written charity van drove slowly down the road
    If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales
  • Perhaps the OP may have better success contacting the council dog warden?
