They just like to pretend they do, dress up in police style uniforms and give themselves meaningless "ranks".
Dreadful organisation!
Do they get a collective bonus for each case they take to court?0 -
I had a similar experience with them. 3 dogs kept in 1 crate 24/7, howling all day and night while the owner disappeared. 4 of the neighbours called the RSPCA, they came out to have a look and said nothing they could do.
I said they were in immediate danger, as the owner was violent to them...still nothing was done.
A few weeks later we discovered the owner has burried 1 in the garden and the autopsy revealed multiple historic fractures and broken bones that hadn't healed properly.0 -

Your guess is as good as mine. Political agenda? Like many "charities" I suspect sadly they have rather lost sight of their original purpose.
There is talk in parliament at the moment of preventing them from making prosecutions. Quite how this would be achieved is less clear because, as I said, they don't actually have any specific powers. They are simply making private prosecutions in the same way that you, I or anybody else could (if we had the funds)!0 -
So sad.
Any idiot can get a dog it takes a human being with compassion and common sense to look after one.
I hope one day the owner is treated in the same way.Happiness, Health and Wealth in that order please!:A0 -
I to had a bad experiance a few yeas ago. My cat went missing a nd after searching for a week found him in a house where the tennats had moved out.
There was no way to get food or water to him as he was locked in a bedroom. Called the rspca and they did not want toknow. told me to call the council. it as a bank holiday weekend so by the time the council had moved he would have been dead. Brike into the house and rescued him oursellves/ (reimbursed the landlord for damages )
We have him still, a happy 16 year old0 -

I'd have done exactly the same"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

Same experience with the rspca as most posters here. Had a neighbours cat and she had gone on holiday and left the cat with a bowl of food in the bin cupboard. The cat got a very bad stomach bug with diarrhoea and sickness. Called the rspca and said neighbor has gone away and left cat and he's sick. They didn't want to know as he had food and water.0

They only act promptly when the tv cameras are there.0

I must admit that the RSPCA seem to have lost their original goals. I was being made homeless, had a lovely English cocker spaniel who doesn't get on well with other dogs in his 'home' but otherwise has a wonderful personality (is great with humans). I didn't know where I was going to end up, asked if they could foster or take him. They told me to take him to London so he could be put to sleep.
Fortunately, at the last minute I did find someone to take him and was able to take him back within the month. As soon as he was returned my two kids with ASD started relaxing. But I will never ever donate to the RSPCA again. Even the telephone line I called about rehoming was a super expensive line, and I had to listen to requests for donations before I was able to get through to a human being. There was no assessment done .., just take him to Battersea to be put down. Not what I call a dog rescue charity. I made it clear I was prepared to pay reasonable fostering fees but couldn't possibly afford kennel fees. Our dog could so easily have died. He would have been so easily rehomable in a one dog family home. Never have a problem with him out walking, only when another dog is in the home. I was very clear about all this.0 -
Deanna, had the worst happened, I can assure you that a cocker at Battersea would have found a home super easily. but I am so glad you were able to keep him. Cockers are the best!0
