ADSL adaptor
;71815163]NO - he specifically meant that if I plug a filter into the socket extension in my lounge, the router will not work. I just did that, and it does not work. I need a non filtered adaptor plug to fit into the BT secondary socket, and then fit the ADSL plug and phone into it. Something similar to the filter adaptor but without the filter capability.
You are wrong because you do not understand that an ADSL filter does not actually filter ADSL.
An ADSL filter is an analogue low pass filter installed between analogue devices such as telephones or fax machines and an ADSL enabled line.
Your filtered faceplate in the hall is only allowing the telephony though to your lounge, so you need the extension wiring changing at the filtered faceplate before the router will work in the lounge.
An ADSL filter is a straight though connection for ADSL, only the telephony side is filtered, so any adapter with no ADSL filter will do exactly the same!
Absolutely pointless!0 -
As above.
Filtered BT master faceplates do not have any easily accessible unfiltered extension connectors sfaik but the ADSLNation ones do have a pair of unfiltered connectors so it would be possible to change the master for one of those and alter the wiring to make the required socket unfiltered.0 -

Care to explain why pointless? Is this not what the OP asked for?The world is not ruined by the wickedness of the wicked, but by the weakness of the good. Napoleon0 -

OK useless is another word I could have used, because it will not allow the OP to use her router in her lounge as she requested.
You obviously don't understand, so your link to an adapter that will not work is pointless and would simply waste her money and give her false hope!0 -
why do you want to move itDon't you dare criticise what you cannot understand0

Rubidium did explain but you must have either missed it or didn't understand it. I'll put it as simply as I can...Care to explain why pointless? Is this not what the OP asked for?
The filter in the master socket is blocking the ADSL signal from going down the extension wiring. No matter what adapter you fit at the extension you cannot get an ADSL signal there.
The only way this can be "corrected" is by altering the wiring at the master so that the ADSL signal isn't blocked by the filter. I put corrected in quotes because the master socket filter is doing exactly what it is supposed to be doing.
By running the router from the extension there is a chance that the ADSL sync speed will be reduced.Certainly no ring wire should be connected (use google for why).0 -
why do you want to move it
Because the ADSL socket is on 1 side of my hall way and the power socket is on the opposite side, which means I will have a cable running across the middle of my hall - not practical to leave the router on all the time as the fitter recommended.
As I'm not able to remove the filter plate, there's not much I can do to get round the problem. Many thanks to all who have taken the time to explain.0 -

Exactly what type of filter plate do you have on your existing NTE as most of them can be removed by the customer and changed for an unfiltered one.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
Sounds exactly like the situation I had. Openreach man turns up, fitted a filtered adsl faceplate to the master socket in hall, this now filters all the rest of my extention sockets around the house. Tells me I should under no circumstances try and use the the router anywhere else as it could affect BB speed. I explain that I want the router in the front room where I already have a multi wall plate installed and I have a need for the ethernet ports, he tells me it's impossible. I wait for him to leave, change master socket back to standard and plug the router in behind the telly with a plug in adsl filter.
Job done, spent longer arguing with him why it would work then just doing it myself after he left0 -
I hope you omitted the ring wire (terminal #3) from the extensions or you may well be reducing your ADSL speed. http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/socket.htm0
