Please DON'T buy a Hoover washer dryer

To be honest this is probably more for your own sake than mine as I made the mistake some four months ago and am living to deeply regret it.
My machine Hoover washer/dryer 1400 spin was delivered on the 30th of April and first went wrong about 3 weeks ago when some of the wash programs wouldn't work properly and the dryer would switch itself off after 3 minutes.
An engineer was duly dispatched on the 12th of september, who after listening to what was wrong with it tinkered around for an hour or so then told me even though the diagnostic check had comeback clear he had changed a component board anyway
and that should fix it.
Funnily enough the dryer (when I first needed to use it last friday) didn't work. I dialled their 0870 number pressed options etc only to find they had closed for the weekend (this was about 5.45pm). On monday morning when I phoned I was told by a rude woman that I could only had a full day appointment on wednesday so I asked to be put through to customer services and they helpfully they arranged for me to have the first appointment of the day today which was ideal as I am working nights.
The engineer turned up today at around 8.45 am and told me after 45 minutes that I DID have a problem :T but the part he needed to fix it would have to be ordered so he put it back in its place and said it would be ok to use the washer until he could fit the part. I was relieved that at least we were getting somewhere, thanked him, put in a load of washing and went to bed. When I went back downstairs at 2pm I found my kitchen swimming in water! It seems when the engineer re-plumbed my washer he forgot to reattatch the waste pipe and the water from the entire program had dumped all over my floor. I phoned Hoover who wouldn't put me through to a manager but got the engineer to phone me. He put his hands up and apologised which I accepted. Hoover CS then phoned me back and asked if I had talked to the engineer so I said yes. They said well as long as everything is ok then and that was that!
So to sum up its now been 2 weeks, 2 visits, 1 flooded kitchen and I still DON'T have an estimate for when my machine will be fixed. I know some people will say I only have myself to blame for buying a Hoover in the first place but my last one worked for 7 years with no hassle so I was lazy and didn't look at Which, other review sites etc and I wish I had. So to sum up PLEASE DON'T BUY A HOOVER. If I can save one person from going through the same crap that I have then writing this is worthwhile.

I totally agree, HOOVER CANDY are rubbish. I had problem after problem with them, I got a flooded kitchen twice and after being told by the engineer that it was safe to use it nearly set on fire! Never again would I choose hoover candy. Oh also the engineer had a bad attitude problem!0

My washing machine guy says that you should avoid buying a combined washer dryer. And don't buy British. Buy German - Bosch, Siemens, AEG or Miele.
In fact one of those German brands seems to have been bought by a Brit company. The man without a signature.0 -
I've had washer dryers for many many years and frankly all of them are a problem if you get 'bad' one. I've had the lot, the best I ever had was an Ariston but then I replaced that with a newer model and that was terrible and only lasted just over 2 years.
My current one is a Bosch but I've had problems with it and now it looks like the programme board has gone and it is leaking water from underneath. Like vikingaero says it is the fact they are washer dryers that appears to be the problem, I've even had some repair men refuse to come and look at them as they say they are virtually impossible to keep running for more than a couple of years if you do daily washes. The average for me is 3 years, only the Ariston lasted for more than 5 but towards the end of that one's life the tumble dryer had stopped working entirely. Apparently the average life is based on something silly like 5 loads a week, I can do that in a day (especially with the Bosch as the load is tiny).I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I think it is luck of the draw ... if you get a bad machine then you get a bad machine.

We've got a British made Hotpoint, which to be fair was quite expensive when it was new, but has only needed two repairs in 13 years, and is still going strong.
Many of the "german" makes are no longer made in Germany, or made by German companies...0 -

I was told this some years ago by the people who replaced my new Hoover washing machine after it packed up the day after installation. A control knob fell off and it flooded the kitchen!
They said Hoover had gone down the nick since being taken over by Candy.
The replacement AEG machine was made in Germany and they said I was lucky as now most were made in E Europe for various companies and the appropriate badge affixed on the production line.
A bit like buying a Volkswagen with a Skoda badge. Or a Toyata Aygo, Peugeot 107 or Citroen C1 - all made in the same place but priced according to badge!0 -

I also realise that washer/dryers are not as reliable as separate machines but I only have room for one and I don't think I can save my drying for the 12 days of sunshine we seem to get a year in Scotland.
Looking on the bright side when I bought my machine I got the three year warranty from empire direct so I guess the best thing to do is add Hoover to my friends and family list and set an extra place for Christmas dinner for my new best pal, the Hoover engineer ( I have a feeling we'll have seen that much of him by then he will be like one of the family, albeit the one who flooded my kitchen). You can't go wrong with carpet bombing...0 -
When I lived with my parents, we owned a succession of Hotpoints, Hoovers, Aristons etc. Our best friend really was the washing machine repair man. We lost count of the number of warranty and out-of-warranty visits. Then they bought a Bosch 15 years ago.
Because of this, I bought a Bosch too when I moved into my own place 10 years ago. 10 years and 2 kids later the machine is horribly abused and overloaded by the mechanically-ignorant missus and yet it still cleans the clothes day in day out.The man without a signature.0 -
