Hoover aren't the only make with problems. My Hotpoint washer dryer died after 3 & a half years having cost me a fortune & finally flooding kitchen 3 days after Xmas 2005
Its replacement an Ariston 1400WD is an even bigger heap of crap. It is now on its last legs at 20 months old. It has had 4 faults since March this year. Its heater elementt was replaced in July & this week. Unfortunately it doesn't heat up & now needs a part which they don't know when they'll get. Hopefully they wont get by end of next week then it can be condemmed under the terms of 5yr guarantee I bought from Currys. Roll on 2nd October. When I get replacement vouchers Ithink I'll have tobuy an expensive one
Don't usually buy extended guarantees but glad I did. It cost me 15 quid to get washing done at launderette this week & there are only 2 in household
Also when I phoned Indesit CS to complain they wouldn't listen & told me to write in.(Decided not to waste the stamp)

As someone who delivers and installs white goods for a living, I get asked constantly if the customer has bought a good make, usually when they've got a Hotpoint/Indesit/Hoover/Candy/Beko/Haier.

I always say to them that these things are built down to a price.

Just as an example - Miele 1200 spin washer - £503 @ Comet
    Beko 1200 spin washer - £189 @ Comet

Which do you think is going to last longer ?

Had 2 Candy W/m, and 2 Candy Fridges, apart from i pump on the W/D, no problems whatsoever. Dont keep knocking Candy!
  • I have had a couple of Hoover washer driers over the last 15 years. They have been very reliable and good value for money.

I see the point, but surely these things should last longer than the 4 months mine did? - Even if it did cost just £320? Reading reviews it seems that its not a one off (and I know the theory that people only write bad reviews but that doesn't seem to stop other "inferior" brands rating pretty well).

Roddydogs - I'm really pleased you seem to have done well from Candy, but I'd keep it quiet otherwise everyone will want a good one, and I doubt there will be enough to go around!!!!!!

  • Out of interest Whits as a "man in the know" what would you recommend as a washer/dryer (if anything) in the sub £500 market? Its just that if I don't get any joy from Hoover by the end of next week I'll start a money claim online and might well be in the market for a new one soon.

  • Just a quick update..
I talked to my local trading standards today who told me it would be better to take it up with the retailer as the washer was under 6 months old. Apparently if the product is under 6 months old the retailer has to prove that it was not faulty when it was sold (which is pretty difficult).
Empiredirect were great and told me that if Hoover do not get the problem sorted within 30 days (12 left and counting) they will arrange an uplift and send me a new one.:T

So if anyone else ends up in a similar situation Trading Standards recommend calling the retailer first (I wish I had). It might be old news but I didn't realise this so if it helps someone then great.
