It would seem that the questions have been answered and the gentleman prefers not to change. It's an economics choice rather than a technological one.

Yeah and even if he got a reasonable low priced deal compared to others it would still mean Paying out more than he does now when really the benefit would be small. It would just fix the annoyance of sometimes being connected to bad wifi. It is rare that he would want to use something that requires the net when not in range of a wifi. He isn't really losing out much.0 -
Last year I got unlimited minutes, unlimited texts and 4gig of data for £7 per month (with cashback) with EE.
I have just moved to 3 and get the same for £9 per month without cashback.
The deals are there you just have to look for them

If that's true then there is absolutely no need to turn of mobile data as it will only be used when there's no WiFi.
All he needs to do is ensure that apps only update/sync via WiFi and turn mobile date back on.
I'm on giffgaff and have their £7.50 goody bag it gives me 200mins of calls, unlimited texts and 250MB of data.
I rarely go over 100mins and have never used my full 250MB of data despite using all the features on my phone. I use it for email, browsing and on-line price checking, looking at what's on nearby etc. Along with Faceache, maps/GPS. I think from memory I use in the region of 200MB-220MB per month.
This is because almost everywhere I go there is Wifi and my data allowance is rarely needed. For me having several Gig of data would be a waste. One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -
Setup has a lot to do with data use. So far this month I've used 14gb on WiFi but only 2gb on mobile data. The difference can be explained by the fact a lot of my apps only update on WiFi.
I wouldn't recommend using public WiFi though as it presents significant security risks.0 -

This is what we've been saying, but to no avail.....Each to their own.;)Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

even rarely using it there is still a cost that he does not have now by not using it. even cheap deals like have been mentioned(£7 per month) mean spending more than he does now.If that's true then there is absolutely no need to turn of mobile data as it will only be used when there's no WiFi.
