  • Well done everyone! We didn't have any extra spends today and we didn't touch the eating out budget. Will be having a think about next month's budgets, other than grocery which is set already, as I have half term coming up and I would like to do something nice for DS. Glad to have limped into February, but with everything going on our plans have kind of been lost. Best look over them now!
  • Well done everyone.

Declaring January Grocery Budget as £243.06. I'm delighted as my budget was £300. I have been previously spending much more. So to come under is great. I also managed to include in that £243.06 figure about £100 of stocking up on bulk buys when a friend took me to Costco.

We didn't have to go without much at all, just did a freezer and cupboard stocktake, bought some yellow sticker bargains on meat and then menu planned around those items. Stuck to my shopping list.

So I shall follow the advice on here and shave off £20 for next month making February budget £280 for one adult and two hungry teenagers who are home half of each month.

    Thanks for all the support.

freyasmum you have inspired me to make my own pizza again, it's been ages since I've done that. :)

I had a final small shop of £7.70 last night. A couple of dinner things and we also needed some plughole unblocker since the bath tub was barely draining. So my total for the month is £218.56 out of £250 :T

Well done everyone, and onwards to February!

I didn't enter the challenge, but I did keep an eye on my expenditure in all areas.

Grocery spend for January (food only) came to just under £50 for just me. Shockingly, £15 of this was on treats / bulk purchases. Which explains why I feel like I haven't really eaten anything all month :o

Total expenditure outside of bills was £103.00, including gifts and charity. It was a miserable January :(. I'll keep it up for groceries but v much doubt I'll be able to do without my coffee this month.

We came in slightly over. We spent another £7.78 yesterday but only had £5.78 left so that means we went over by £1.84. This was less than the Chinese take out that OH was craving so I still see this is a win. Less than £2 over is fine.

    £156.84/£155
    £1.84 over budget

  • I've gone over this month by about £50 (unfortunately, I lost a couple of receipts towards the end of the month so I can't be accurate).

I'll need to keep a better log of spending next month (sorry...this month!) to get a better idea of where the spending is!

  • VfM4meplse everyone needs their coffee don't they? Surely it's a necessity :)
Let's hope Feb is a good one for all and nice and cheap!! I always think that the supermarkets make the prices low in Jan, Feb and halfway through March seem to ramp things up again.

Due to doing the 'eating out of the freezer and cupboards' challenge, all I spent on groceries in January was £23.61 out of a budget of £100, very pleased with that and the freezer is a lot emptier.
