Hi, I'm back! Well, not literally back as I am still in Sardinia, sunning myself and drinking piña coladas JOKE! It's been windy and rainy and colder than London!

Anyhoo, here I am again tapping into the wisdom of the challengers here.

I will be back on 5th January so my challenge will go 6th to 30th January.

Please put me down for £150.

I have a lot of grains, pulses and nuts/seeds in stock so it should be ok.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

I am in awe of some of your budgets, you really do a fantastic job at keeping costs down.

I'm not ready to make serious changes yet, but a budget of £500 (for a 5 week month) will have to suffice for the time being. I am hoping over this year to get it down. I am ok with £400 a month, would be incredible to get below that but we will see. This is to cover all groceries, cleaning products, cat food and litter and nappies. Takeaways come out of a separate budget.

ETA: I do my shop online at Ocado - with a little one I really find online shopping to be the best solution for me, but am wondering if I should switch down to Tesco to save money. Which is the best online shop you've used?
    February Grocery Challenge: £0 / £500
  • I'd really like to join you this year please. I will be working to £100 per week or £5,200 annual budget. I've been keeping receipts and seeing patterns in buying that need to change this year.
Our household is 2 adults, 2 teens (sport mad boys who are always on the go and hungry) and an extra teen who is around in hols along with 2 dogs (lab and GSD)
Our month starts on the 20th so will start as soon as I shop this week.
    Thank for having me.

Hi Stephie, I have tried most of the online stores and the best value for us with the most choice is Tesco closely followed by Asda but I tend to use the own brand products rather than the branded so that helps a lot to keep the budget down.
  • Please can I join in? I am currently spending £110.oo per week for DH, DD and myself, three dogs, two cats and two horses

I am looking to cut my hours down from 37 to 32 hours per week at work so cutting grocery costs to £100.00 (or less) would help with that

I find that the food spending goes wild when squeezed for time and I fail to plan

Looking forward to browsing all the recipes and tips on here :)

    2017 Grocery challenge £110.00 per week/ £5720 a year

  • Could I join please with a budget of £300. I'm trying to cut costs so this will be much lower than I usually spend for three adults. I'm a terrible shopper buying convenience foods and going to the supermarkets almost daily!

I've tried to budget before and have never lasted a month yet but January is a new start! I'm going to try for a meal plan and use my slow cooker.

Hi Could I join please have a budget of £70 per week for 2 adults and a 17 year old and 13 year old. Would love to get this down to £60 with meal planning. I have a Tesco shop once a week and get a 10% discount as my son works for Tesco.

  • Hi chums as usual I will have a £60.00 pm budget for my food purse.I have a freezer that is stuffed to the gunnals with food and as I am away tomorrow until the New Year I have quite a bit of cash left over from my December budget which will go into my holiday account for next August. I know it seems quite a low budget but I only have myself to feed and as I am out two nights out of seven I really at most only have five evening meals to make My breakfasts are usually porridge or cereal and a banana and my lunches are usually HM soup and crackers and either pate or cheese.I spend about a third at least on fruit and veg and am just as happy with a veggie lasagne or chilli as a meat one .I am not a big meat eater anyway but do enjoy lots of veg.
I make all of my food from scratch and don't buy much in the way of processed food at all (just don't like it ) I make my own cakes and biscuits and don't eat bread at all, but I am partial to the odd scone now and again.
