Why does the British motoring press hype the Ford handling?

  • I see the 'threads with a very obvious question in the title' phase has started then.
  • How many "free" holidays or perks have said so called journalists received from Ford (other car makes are available) throughout the year or before being asked to review x make and model?
I don't belive and have never believed one word of these magazine reviews.
"Fun to drive" whatever that means and it's never been defined either. Just someting the journos have made up to sound convincing. To quote something often written or said after a group test "I've tested all three of these hatchbacks and have to say the Fiesta comes out on top because it's such fun to drive.":rotfl:

Exactly what I thought when I saw the thread title. Welcome back DM!

But do they handle as well as the ultimate driving machine?

An elephant standing on one leg on rollerskates would handle better than the BMW's I've driven. (But for £5 cash I'd retract that statement)
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

Why bring up BMWs? They are in a different market segment and not really comparable.

Perhaps something was wrong with your BMW?

I remember what car raving about the Freelander2 when it first came out, even when their one had been off the road for an extended period!

But isn't that where they're expected to be used some of the time? ;)

I had 2 e30 318s (actually, one could have been a 316), a 2 door and a 4 door, and they were both evil handling little cars in the wet. There was an urban myth that Sweden banned the 6 cylinder.

In my yoof, I briefly had a 2002 auto, that was a better car, but the steering was somewhat reminiscent of a boat, swapped it for a P6 V8 . Wish I still had either of those in good nick now. (The P6 was miles better apart from trim quality)

I normally drive a Toyota Yaris 1.4 diesel. Not the poshest car in the world, but does the job for the two of us. I'ts got great acceleration, it's ok for comfort, and handles well. The only downside is it starts to get quite noisy over 60.

I rented a car a couple of weeks ago and got a Ford C-Max 1.6 petrol. Very sluggish, but very quiet when you eventually get up to speed. Comfortable enough on the main roads, but not worth £19K IMO. (And poor legroom in the back compared with my little Yaris!)

But on the country lanes - wow. It was like being on a trampoline. Awful ride.
