O/S Daily Thread for Wednesday 21st Dec

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Can't sleep, sod's law as I have no child care duties today & my L&M doesn't start work until 10.
So I'll get a couple of hours of crochet done as it's quiet, every thing else that needs doing is noisy.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

The roadworks finished yesterday. I thought I'd have to turn the music up and keep the front curtains shut in an attempt to stop Scampi from barking out the window at the scary men and machines, lol. But they were only working on one end of the road. I thought it was odd when we received the letter saying they were resurfacing along here, it was done about six years ago and the road has been fine since. The past couple of days have been nice and peaceful, it's a shame the traffic is back.

I'll update the spreadsheets first thing to get it out of the way. I thought I was all done but a couple of bank statements have arrived and I've been given some receipts. I like to sort them straight away so I can't leave them, I don't want them on my mind over Christmas. Everything must be accounted for, scanned, filed and in it's proper place :D A bit more wrapping will be done later. I usually do it all in one afternoon but I'm enjoying taking my time and not having stuff everywhere all at once.

Today I will be putting away my vanilla sugar scented candles and lighting my spiced orange and cinnamon ones :D

• Morning folks - oh I don't like duplicate daily threads I never know which to join! Weather calm, fine and dry here (as yet) but looking at the forecast that may change.

Yesterday's panto visit was brilliant. The theatre packed to capacity and the performance enjoyed by all. Especially the 3D experience when we had to don our special specs and endure hundreds of horrible sea creatures zooming towards us! We went for a Chinese buffet meal beforehand and, even though I am not a big fan of Chinese food, I have to admit the food was wonderful and the vast array of desserts even better!! It was just marred by Mr TA not having a good day and he couldn't face eating a thing. I hope he feels better today as this just came out of the blue yesterday.

We are supposed to be having a run down to my DB's today at some point with all their Xmas presents but this may not happen if Mr TA isn't any better. Life is a constant worry with him as he is.

Chicken and bacon creamy pasta was on the menu for lunch and dinner something with the defrosting mince. Will see what Mr TA feels like eating. Just hoping he is better than yesterday.

Have a good day all and ((HUGS)) to all the poorlies and poorly loved ones. Take care xx

Morning everyone

Hester - thanks for starting us off, sorry about the lack of sleep x

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still dark here, damp and dirty but not raining, temperature has really dropped too.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now going to work, DS2 still in his pit.

Dinner last night was jacket potatoes, beans and cheese, fish fingers, bacon and fried eggs. Was lovely and we all really enjoyed it but I'm really cross with myself as I bought the jacket potatoes on the way into work yesterday morning, and they were big potatoes, once I'd cooked them and got it all served on to the plates - I really should have just used 2 and half each would have been more than enough, hence there was LO's that then went into the bin, so cross with myself as I'd served the food I had to use up stuff out of the fridge so it didn't get thrown away! I did remember to get the beef out to defrost, that is now going into the slow cooker with some gravy etc to make a beef casserole for tonight's dinner will serve that with veg, sounds like DH could be late home so I'll just leave his in the cooker until he comes in.

Yesterday work again was so much busier than we expected although it did calm down in the afternoon, so I reserve judgement on what's going to happen today - it'll be what it is! I'm working on the telephones this morning, then back to the normal job this afternoon, but today's my last day until next Wednesday - so I'm pretty chilled, I do need to buy some more food, fresh perishable bits but plan to do that on the way home from work today - I'll try to get what I can, and anything I haven't got I'll get tomorrow, if it's only a few bits I'll get to one of the big SM's and go through their self service tills which hopefully won't be quite so busy!

Keep safe and well x

Thank you Tru now we really are feeling like we are on holiday!

TA and everybody who read this, please ignore my thread, follow this one! I don't take any offence! I am only posting sporadically because it is not always that I have a good connection on my iPad, so it is much better you follow this thread rather than mine.

I find it always quite funny when duplicates happen, it is more of a case of Great Minds Think Alike than Oh Dear I Duplicated!

Off I go to my mystery gluten free breakfast (cross fingers) xx

• Morning everyone!

I'm a new oldie! Anxiety has been creeping up majorly of late and it's got to the point that the root of it is financial. However, at the minute I can't sleep unless I'm in a nest of pillows - and last night I had two panic attacks - so I figure I need to start tackling the financial situation head on....and remembered how much this board helped me so much years ago - and so I'm back. Since one major worry about finances is the 'will I have money to eat' thing - and today that is what I'm going to tackle - today's plan is:

- Food Planning
- Food cooking (and freezering)
- Store cupboard planning for those tougher than tough times.

Wish me luck my lovelies! And so looking forward to being more around! :)

Good morning everyone :hello:

Welcome to Businessgirl, lovely to have your company, hope you can sort out your finances so you can stop worrying x
Dear TA, I have everything crossed that your hubby is just having a blip and will be better very soon. It must be such a worry for you both x
Hester, it is the law of Sod that you cannot sleep. Enjoy your crochet x

Well, it's quiet here as the girls are all fast asleep and hubby is in work. I have a quiet day planned as I don't think I have any visitors today. I shall go and get dressed in a bit though just in case :).

DD15 has a 5 hour shift at the pub so I will get her up in a bit as she needs an hour or so to do her makeup and hair. DD16 actually cleaned her room without being asked to as we couldn't find her stocking for Christmas Eve. Can you believe it, it was still in her room from last Christmas buried under a pile of rubbish . That was probably the last time she deep cleaned her room. Anyway, I have it now ready for Santa duty.

I think we are going to have a curry for tea for a change from the local takeaway. It's not my favourite but hubby loves them and we are celebrating him having a payrise. Tomorrow my big Christmas shop arrives so I will be cooking the gammon joint when it comes. There are going to be a lot of leftovers so I am reading the leftovers thread on here with interest.

I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Morning everyone and a Merry Yule to you all!

Thanks for the thread Hester, hope you manage a bit more sleep at some point today.
A busy day today, we are taking the wreaths over to put on the family graves and will pick up a couple of bits from Mum's bungalow. Then we are driving out to a cheese shop to pick some choice bits for the holidays, we don't go mad food wise but both love a good cheese board so that's one area we don't scrimp. After that we hope to find a nice pub for a celebratory solstice lunch, we have a couple in mind so hopefully we can get in as haven't booked.
Tonight we will open a bottle of something cold and fizzy, light the candles and reflect on the past year, it's been a toughie in many ways and we know we have tougher to come but thankfully have each other to see it through.
Wishing you all a peaceful day, take care folks x
• Good morning Businessgirl

This site has helped me a lot, in fact I would say it's changed my outlook towards financial and household planning. Neither OH or I were particularly good with money, we were a bit too carefree!

When we retired we had to be a lot more careful, and gradually, we have changed our attitudes. I'm browsing this site every day, and it's been so helpful.

I'm sure it will do the same for you, good luck!!
