Overtaken while turning right.

Had a guy nailed on my bumper tailgating while I was in a 30 zone built up area. Indicated and slow down to turn right into a side road. Half expecting the moron behind me to do something stupid, he obliged by overtaking me on my right side.

Unbelievably stupid thing to do, at best he was going to gain a few extra seconds, I was after all getting out of his way. To do that he was risking a collision.

Take comfort that your reactions saved someone's Christmas

Mine saved someone's Christmas last Sunday. :T

I fail to see how these people can drive like that all the time and not get wiped out- are there a lot more brilliant drivers with cat-like reflexes on the road than you might think?
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

People seem dangerously impatient a lot of the time and are happy to risk a serious accident to shave seconds off their journey.

I'm used to being overtaken when turning (and clearly indicating) right as it happens a lot on my (pedal) bike but it would not surprise me if it happened if I was driving a car.

I think its more about general frustration than saving seconds. When im stuck behind a dawdler I get absolutely tampin mad. Whether this is on the road, on my push bike or on foot, dawdlers drive me insane. For this reason it is often safer to drive faster, within reason. Its a psychological thing AFAIK. Dont know how to explain it but its very irrational in hindsight.
Sometimes my advice may not be great, but I'm not perfect and I do try my best. Please take this into account.

I'd suggest you seek help with this before it's too late.
  • I was overtaken on a roundabout today- single carriageway entry and exit, view to the right completely blocked by a lorry's rear end sticking out. I had slowed to make sure there was nothing coming; as I pulled out the impatient driver came roaring around me from behind and cut me up as I was crossing. It made my heart beat a little faster for sure, but I'd always rather this type of driver were ahead of me than behind.

try setting your watch a few minutes fast then you are more likely to arrive on time even with several dawdlers in front of you
