Afternoon all
Seem to have done very little today due to babysitting
Off to do more babysitting shortly, so no catching up this evening - tomorrow's another day I suppose.
*No heating on downstairs
*Posted a final ebay sale, ebay seems to have gone to sleep now, but I am pleased to have a break from post offices and parcelsIt will be interesting to see when it picks up again!
*Did rest of food shopping, had OH with me so it seemed mainly to consist of crisps and beer  If we don't have it now, we will do without till after Christmas, unless the milkman doesn't appear tomorrow, in which case I will have to pop to Waitrose for milk!
* Took a couple of Christmas cards for DD to hand deliver (the recipients live close to her)
*Dog walk this afternoon for a bit of free exercise and fresh air - and I like looking at the Christmas decorations in people's windows / gardens
*Rest of yesterday's lasagne for dinner, with some vegetables, better get on with it as I have to be out at 6.30 :eek:0 -
I can't make fudge. It's the one thing I've tried and just given up on. When I was doing loads of research before I opened my business I made loads of different cakes and things and fudge is expensive ingredient wise, and mine just wouldn't ever set. So that's my woe as I love the stuff, although now I come to think of it can't remember the last time I had it.
One idea for fudge trimmings that don't involve the eat it then and there model, freeze it and crumble into ice cream. Yum." Your vibe attracts your tribe":D

Evening all
I remembered to take a chunk of cheese into work with me for lunch with some leftover crackers then did a trip to M T in my lunch hour. I was going to cook a nice anchovy and courgette spaghetti recipe that somebody gave me a month or so ago but they only had the jars which are twice the price of the tins so I walked around with them for a while and then put them back :rotfl: Instead I did my usual courgette and salami pasta and I've made enough to take some for lunch tomorrow.
Tomorrow is payday so I will be compiling my Christmas shopping list tonight ready to do a shop late tomorrow evening. Payday is a week early so it's going to be a loooooooong wait for the next one  DH will also be picking up some Xmas pudding ice cream from Waitrose and I will try to get some of M&S's Xmas dinner soup. FIL can't swallow proper food and can only eat soup and ice cream but at least it will be festive! I don't own a blender if the soup has lumps but maybe I can strain it.
There was an alcohol tombola at work today but I didnt bother with it, I only drink a certain brand of cider and not even much of that so winning a bottle of Baileys doesn't really excite me too much.
I rang HR to check how much holiday I have in 2017 until my contract ends in mid February and I have 3.5 days, I'm sorely tempted to use it to extend the Christmas/New Year holiday! I'm also toying with the idea of travelling into work with DH in the NY to a station that is inside zone 6, I need to check out how much it would save me.

YORKSHIRELASS wrote: »Hi all
I have just been to the shops. I have a friend who always spends more on me at Christmas than is necessary (and she won't scale it down) so I get into that trap of feeling that I have to buy her something nice. I also needed Christmas cards and a few other odds and ends so £20 spent.
More paid stuff now. Not feeling very enthusiastic but needs must! Will do a chicken and chorizo pasta thing for tea to use up the chorizo that is lurking in the fridge and the peppers that are looking a bit squidgy.
Right - work.
That's a real shame your friend won't be more supportive of your feelings. I can't understand how a friend could want you to feel pressure to buy at the same level even after you've explained your view.
P.S leftover chorizo is another 'wouldnt happen here's things, DS just chops hunks off it as snacks. It's such a great fridge item to have in as well as so flavoursome and a little goes a long way. But not in this house:rotfl:" Your vibe attracts your tribe":D

Bob I had pushed the chorizo to the back of the fridge so that no-one would find it. I agree with you, its not cheap but fantastic for making a few bits of leftover chicken and veg into something tasty.
And as for my friend, I have given up. I have one or two friends and family like this and usually I am pretty good at finding something that looks expensive but isnt!
Bedtime now, looks of work to do before I can finish for Christmas.0 -
Re Chorizo, I stick it in the freezer when I buy it and then cut off only what I want as and when needed as otherwise the kids would be at it all the time too
YorkshireLass, its hard when family/friends are like that, particularly if they know your situation.

Hi,
The Wee Geek has finished work til Boxing Day...hopefully and so had retired to the sofa to recover from a busy time at work and a light dose of Plague. The Wee Geek is strategically positioned 8 feet from her debit card.

Morning DNMS & Ally & all who follow,
Not planning too much of a mad day. Money saving bits will be:
*Mix up a half quantity of hair colour to brighten up my yukky roots. The other half will be mixed up next month so as to get two touch-ups from 1 pack.
*Early payday today. Will check online banking & do swift budget reconciliation but will not be doing January budget till after Christmas as our budget cycle runs from 27th to 26th & no way do I want to be dipping into next month's money early.
*Update grocery budget.
*Sort through vouchers/coupons & chuck out anything expired or for stuff we don't buy.
*Do big pile of ironing. Will minimise energy use by only doing what really needs it & switching off for final item. Will decide what clothes I'm going to take with me over Christmas while I'm in & out of the wardrobe & that will make packing a bit quicker.
*Enter a competition.
*Clear my stair basket of admin & filing.
*Line cake tin for tomorrow's baking. I re-use baking parchment unless it has got gunky.
*Work on knitting order. Cast on last night. The quicker I knit, the quicker I will see the cash.
*Use-it-up making good progress. Last of a lipstick tube this morning & empty mascara having its final dunk in hot water so I can get the last bit out. Last bit of shampoo will be swilled out with warm water.
*Make very tiny shopping list for butcher's tomorrow.
That's it for today. Mr f has finally scraped all the ice off the car & is off to work, I need to go & make a start on my yukky roots.......Don't want THOSE in any festive photos!
Have a good day all,
