  • So that's the electric supplier switch gone through. Now with Robinhood energy. I do however need to check what the heating oil level is at.

Just a few items I need to buy in the coming weeks for the LO's, new bed for DD1 being the priority.

Realised I messed up on matched betting, i didn't look on quido as it turns out I could have got cashback too :(

  • Also just looked at previous electric supplier is in credit, and Aglian water is £400 in credit and with the usage going to drop both my direct debit should go down but I will also call them to get a refund.

One thing I do keep toying with is getting skysports for the football.... I know I shouldn't but with me being alone now, whats the harm?

  • Happy New Year LP!

You deserve a treat - you still have to live even though you are paying down the mortgage and debt!

Good luck in the coming year - I look forward to reading about your progress...

  • Yeah i think you might be right MCI. Although I will look at either a KODI box or sky. KODI is £42 for the 32gb version so I am very tempted with this also. Maybe i'll stick it down as a birthday treat for myself.

I have today signed up for my own nectar card and linked it to my ebay account (Before I always used the ex's).

Also just placed my £50 free bet with Ladbrokes.

Just worked out so far I have put £190 in, and had £7.50 out the rest stayed in the betfair account. Once these bets clear I will work out what profit I have made.

  • Okay so today I have cancelled my life insurance (No point it paying off the mortgage if I am dead, the kids are already taken care of from my will), so thats £15 or so a month saving.

I realised I messed up again on the matched betting by not understanding their "open bets" but luckily it went in my favour so I am "quids in".

So far I have placed 7 bets of which 5 games have come in and I have made a profit of £129.88 so far, there are two more games to come in which should boost me yet further. The mess up actually landed me an extra £50.... lucky but I won't make the mistake again.

I will place a couple more bets today with new bookies and keep updated on overall profit.

    Jobs for the coming weeks:
    - Sort items to be sold eBay/car boot
    - Tidy and sort the shed
    - Paint garage ceiling
    - Paint DD1 ceiling

    Afternoon all.

Its been really cold past few days and has highlighted to me that not all my radiators are working as they should be. Looks like I am going to have to balance and possibly bleed/unblock some of them..... that'll be a fun job. But i guess once done it should make the system run slightly more efficiently.

Looking forward to my food budget I think on the diet I am planning I would guess £180-200 a month.

Looking at the diet its basically:
Breakfast a mix of porridge, weetabix and scrambled eggs.

Lunch, wholemeal chicken/turkey with salad, jacket P with beans/cottage cheese, yoghurts.

Dinner - mackerel/fillet steak/chicken/turkey with salad or green beans/corn on cob.

    Snacks bannana/apple and protein shake.

I added it up on Mr T and its about £50/60 for a shop but £10 of that is the shake, I am guessing at Mr Al's it will be £30/40 a month plus a bit on the weekends the kids are with me.

  • Some more matched betting results, my profit for far is £210.96 although its pretty much all in my betfair account to be used for future bets, so I don't actually have any of it in my hand so to speak.

Going to do a couple more today (I tend to only do two at a time so I don't lose track, plus I write every bet down on excel so I can check I am actually doing it right!).

So far I have got the free opening bets from:
    Coral
    Skybet
    Ladbrokes
    William Hill

Weekend was productive sorting clothes and toys for the children at the ex's. They are all excited about their new house but don't full understand the implications of it all.

  • Hi LP

You sound to be doing great! Sorry to hear about your split I'm recently in the same position ended up taking on the mortgage from my ex. It takes a bit of getting used to which I'm still trying to do but even though I now pay all the bills and mortgage rather than half it is easier to watch what you spend and focus on saving. I know all the energy in the house used is mine alone now if I want to switch tariffs my choice, I can save on food costs and I really don't need fancy meals during the week if it's just me. Well done on the Match betting too I've been dabbling over the last 6 weeks only doing one offer at a time but up around 200 so far and it's quite fun. Great ideas for the days out with the kids I love Eureka very near me and my niece and nephew love it. Anyway keep up the good work I'll subscribe to your diary
  • Hi Kitty,

Thanks for stopping by I had a look at your thread and I can see the similarities. Keep focused and make a list (I do love a good list) of things to do both for saving money and what jobs need doing next.

I remember going to Eureka when it first opened and I was in secondary school, I can't say I have been back since but I am sure the kids will love it.

Exactly knowing that every penny spent was spent by me rather than doing my monthly reconciling and thinking "how much on x, y or z?"

  • Just applied for a 25% council tax reduction as the sole adult in the property.

That should be a saving of £57.50 a month!
