Why stick with XP instead of Vista?

It'll be free, but expect it to be a massive download, or made available for a "delivery charge" on CD.0

When SP1 comes out for Vista, do you have to pay to get this or is it something like Windows Update that you get for free?
Sorry to be thick!
All service packs for operating systems are free. They actually are just large updates."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Why do you say that???
Do you think it will be bigger than the full install of SP3 for XP???
That all depends on how much of the OS needs to be updated.
But judging by all the horror stories we keep hearing about issues and security the chances are it could be rather large....To travel at the speed of light, one must first become light.....0 -
266MB is hardly what I would call a massive download... Most game demos now are around 600-800MB. That and the fact it will probobly be distributed like SP1 and SP2 and put on the front cover of every PC magazine out there. Not really a problem to be wound up about or scare people with.0

Who's winding up and scaring people?
What's massive to one, is tiny to another and vice versa. The chances are with the new OS the update is likely to be much larger that the initial patches for XP.
Remember there are plenty of users in the country are still on dial-up! And 8Meg ADSL to a vast swath of the country never comes close to this delivery.
Incidentally, Microsoft did prevent magazines supplying many SPs on cover CDs too.0 -
Remember, only a very few people actually need the FULL download of the service packs as the full service pack usually includes ALL the security updates as well. If you've been installing critical updates anyway then the actual size of your personal download for the service pack will likely be much much smaller."She is quite the oddball. I'd agree. I downloaded Office Ultimate the other day and that was over 500 MiB plus over 250 MiB for Business Contact Manager. That didn't seem to take too long, just a couple of hours during the day, while I was browsing anyway, and my internet connection's maximum is still less than the national average."She is quite the oddball. No-one in the know would touch it before it's been through it's first service patch, essentially it's a v1.0 product, and I'm not beta testing a product for Microsoft with my work and important files..
Sounds like scare tacticts and winding up to me. Is there some kind of report or article that says this as I Know a lot of IT people ( and a few who own thier own businesses) and most got Vista in the first month of release. People on here ask for reccomendations of software/ hardware on user experiences and the comments you make could be seen as scaremongering. So what you are saying is that everyone who has VISTA installed and is using it knows nothing about computers and VISTA is essentially still in its BETA phase. One main problem is the crazy amount of versions available, it's just confusing for end-users, and hasn't impressed IT professionals...
Lets see..
Windows Vista Business... quite plain what thats aimed for
Windows Vista Basic .... Could be seen as the Windows XP Professional.
Windows Vista Premium... Could be seen as Windows XP Home
Windows Vista Ultimate .. Could be seen as Windows XP Media Centre Edition
No more versions left..It needs extensively modern hardware too, yet the majority of the features have been around in Mac OS X Tiger for ages, and the soon to be released Mac OS X Leopard will move the goalposts further, both which run on much older hardware than Vista...
Im running it on a 5 year old Time computer with 3 year old printer and 2 year old graphics card.. Hardly cutting edge stuff.. My laptop as well has Premium on it and is only a 1.5 MHz Acer with 1 GB ram and onboard Intel graphics and it runs better than XP home on it. True Games could be better but that doesnt matter to me yet ... As for the Mac OS X debate .... Thats a whole new thread..Incidentally, Microsoft did prevent magazines supplying many SPs on cover CDs too....
Never remember that and I still have a PC gamer with SP2 on it. I do remember they stopped it going on to Bittorent sites though0
