HP Ink delivery

Recently bought a HP Envy 4524 printer and have subscribed to their automatic ink supply delivered to the door. The ink level now shows "low", the black has about quarter left and colour half. Presumably that information has gone to HP and ink could be on the way. The two packs of ink that came with printer looked small enough to go through letterbox and hope the first of many will go through.

Last week, because we were out when the postman cam, he left a card telling me a parcel was in the green bin and I found it. This week we are going away for a month. If the postman does that again and the binman collects the bin, my parcel/package could be taken to the dump.

Ideally I would like to know if the ink packages will pass through letterbox. To be on the safe side, I think I should take the bins to the read of the house so that hiding place isn't available. What would you do?

the postman should not be putting parcels in the bin.... get that sorted
as a back up take the bin around the back.

The odd thing is, we had told our neighbour they could use our bins whilst we were away, so if a parcel goes in bin and she dumps her rubbish in it................gone forever. Will go to sorting office tomorrow to instruct them, plus I will move bins.

damn!. when your printer shows "low ink", do you think that's the signal for HP to send the next supply? and if so, how long after you see the low ink bubble is it before the ink arrives?

You can set up a redirect through the Royal Mail, so that in this type of situation the delivery is left with a nominated neighbour.

    http://www.royalmail.com/personal/receiving-mail/delivery-to-neighbour

Around here, we're all friendly, so if I am expecting something to not fit the letterbox, I stick a large note to the inside of the front door glass asking any deliveries to be left at number ??
    Move along, nothing to see.

afaik the printer emails hp when the ink is getting low. hp then sends me a email to say that the cartridge(s) have been despatched. the cartridges arrive a day or two later. i then wait (can be weeks) until i notice a deteriation in the print quality before installing the new cartridge(s).

i would check all your hp instant ink account settings if this is not happening for you.

i haven't had any problems in the 18 months i have been using the service

Ditto for me. In the two years I've been using the service I've had an email notifying me a new cart is on its way we'll. enforce the old one has expired. Though it has always fitted through my letterbox which I'm sure is a standard size.
FWIW I've saved a lot of money over purchasing ink separately & am more than happy with the service. I appreciate it may not work for everyone but I was paying £30 a quarter on an old canon printer for oem inks which as I print out photos could not find adequate quality 3rd party ones. I now pay just over £30 a year.

Tried to get through by phone, but then elected to use their "chat to me" facility that worked very well. It seems when the "system" registers there is only 20% of ink left, somehow the replacement inks are released. So nothing is on the way to me and as I don't intend printing before we leave, nothing to worry about. I have to say that to be able to print off photographs etc to use up ink is great. Normally I wouldn't print 50 sheets per month but as I will get that amount for £1.99, present no problem.

I think the thing that matters, is compared with the old way, there isn't the "will I run out of ink?", reluctance to print, just in case, will ink dry up if not used?.

An update. The ink arrived an hour before we left for a months holiday.

However, out of interest, I had disconnected my laptop/printer and hidden the laptop, just in case, but received an email from HP during my time away, telling me they had become aware I was not connected to the internet and as such, the printer wouldn't work. They added that they felt I could be on holiday and if so, when I returned and reconnected, all would be well again. How weird and Big Brother is that?.

I do have a slight problem though, the printer works wifi from my iphone and ipad, but as yet, not my HP laptop and am unsure what to do.
