We are off to Las Vegas on 1st May. Our first stop of a little trip around the west coast. Got 3 nights in LV then we fly on to San Francisco. We are booked to stay at the Luxor (booked at £151 per night plus tax and resort fee).

I really want to go to the Grand Canyon but as we are time limited it's going to have to be a plane or helicopter trip. I'd love to do the helicopter that stops in the canyon but that's about £250 each. So might have to be the cheaper sight seeing plane trip.

Other than that not sure what we will do other than a little exploring and roulette! :)

This comparison of the different areas of the Grand Canyon would be worth a read before deciding what to do:

I've always done the Signature and like you and Vdara Misty, It's my Vegas go to place, lol!

Not me, this will be my first time staying there. 'Tis secretmachines who's the Vdara fan. :)

I really like the look of The Signature and we've almost booked the one bedroom balcony suites a couple of times, but the walk from The Strip puts me off. I know it's not exactly far, but having always stayed in City Center, I'm spoilt for location. :) Maybe this trip I'll actually take the walk and see how long it really takes me to do.

Yeah I've read other websites and I get that the south rim is the 'true' Grand Canyon but I just don't think we have the time or money to make it there. I'm hoping the west rim would still be pretty impressive? Thinking of going for something like this http://www.papillon.com/las-vegas-tours/airplane-air-tours/highlights-air-tour

If we were just going to LV I'd probably blow the budget a bit more, but we have San Francisco, Portland and Seattle to visit afterwards so need to be realistic.

Your time, your money, just know what the options are and take your choice.

We're there for a week and planning on a trip to the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam. Are there any other must see attractions while we're there? Plus, any recommendations for cheapish breakfast places near the MGM Grand? Thank you

    Hiya.
If you are planning to go to Hoover Dam, then stop off along the way and have a potter around Boulder City & Lake Mead.
Boulder City has the 'Boulder Dam Brewing Company' which is a cracking bar that does some really nice food (I highly recommend, if it's the day's special, the fried bread Pepperjack cheese toastie with fries *drool*)
There is also a rather wonderfully named shop there called 'Dead Cows For Sale' If you like Indian/Mexican pottery and things like sugar skulls, it's a must visit. There is also lots of bronze statues littered about the place that you can look at. And it's free parking :T
Lake Mead is also on the way to Hoover Dam, stop off at the lay by round the corner from Boulder and have a look at the view. It's amazing.
Oh yeah, and Boulder City has a place called 'Alpaca Imports' If you want some snug slippers, rugs or jumpers, that's the place to go (and it's a lot cheaper than over here) I got a few funny looks by a few folk shopping for rugs in there in the middle of June because I bought me Mam a warm cardigan :rotfl: Everybody was melting and I'm buying winter clothes. :rotfl:
    HTH. Have a good 'un

£151 per night for Luxor? Is it a suite?
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

Lol, what am I like :rotfl: sorry, getting all mixed up :D The easy way to get to the strip, is through the back of the Signature at Harmon avenue, cross the road and through the Miracle mile shops at planet Hollywood. Has you on the strip a lot quicker. But, if your used of city centre, it will feel far that end. We've only stayed at Luxor and then the Signature :) I can't believe I'm going back in April :j

That is a short trip so you will probably want to pack in as much as possible for your Son. Are you on a Vegas stopover on a longer trip or flying from the UK 14 to 17?

We are flying in for the short break.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I will keep an eye on the thread and discuss options with him.

    Enjoy your short break.

I must admit, it takes me a couple of days to get over the journey, I take it easy at the beginning. In my defence I do have health issues though.
