  • A1box.co.uk were advertising a "Small Move Pack (25 boxes)" which I ordered.
Within the product description 5 of those boxes were "clearance boxes", "these box sizes change daily, but they are of a good size for house removals"

I only received 20 boxes (5 short). So I phoned up and complained, they firstly denied that there was any problem on their part. After some time I spoke to the manager, who then said they had ran out of clearance boxes and could only offer "small item boxes" instead (which they could ship separately). They refused outright to substitute any other boxes (even though my order was 5 boxes short), and said that the extra 5 boxes where only while stocks last (even though it's still being advertised on thier website, and the package title clearly states "25 boxes" with no conditions attached).

This isn't what I paid for, and neither was there any advanced warning that I was going to be 5 boxes short. The worst thing about it was that A1Box didn't even want to help me out with my immanent move by giving me a different type of box, even though I was five boxes short and it was their mistake. So I am stuck with 20 boxes at the price of 25, and have no large boxes for my move:mad: .

On the phone the manager (owner's) attitude was awful, and talked over the top of me constantly so I couldn't even give my points as a customer. I have never had customer service like this ANYWHERE:mad: .

In short, avoid this company like the plague!

PS: the tape they sent doesn't stick at all!

They are still adverting the offer on their website (even though they won’t deliver). Here it is:

I think they mean a free guaranteed delivery not an actual free delivery.

These guys are complete jokers....After going online to buy some packing boxes...simple enough task.. I followed all the links on their site..yep i need 10 x tea chest..ok..£2.80 each..on almost every page theres a flashing tag about the FREE NEXT DAY DELIVERY..and "don't be fooled by other sites offering the same but not delivering on time"..so I carry on to the check out..give my card details..fill in the relevant order form..and think Great...boxes will be here tomorrow..get home and a1box have called and asked me to call back regarding my order..HMMM..
SO i CALL ..and they tell me I haven't paid delivery which is £3.99..not a lot..but No Im not gonna pay because as far as Im concerned Ive bought the boxes and now Im being charge extra. At no point while completing the online transaction was I asked to pay or given the opportunity to pay delivery..if I had, this would have stopped the price being so competitive. To cut a long story short..The manager was then very rude, had zero customer service skills and became sarcastic and flippant when I said I thought as a good will gesture..seeings as his website software was rubbish because it had allowed me to purchase the boxes without charging me delivery, he should send the boxes anyway..no such luck..the guy is a complete knob..with bells on.......I think its illegal to sell someone something...then charge them more ??..Trading standards here I come...

A1 boxes are my favourite. They are actually mental. I ordered a big cardboard box on a Monday evening that I needed a week later. I was promised I would have it Wednesday. When it hadn't arrived by Friday, I called and spoke to the lovely Jenny, the put upon receptionist. I asked to speak the boss - I then heard her put down the phone and heard the boss, Robin Fisher' effing and blinding and using the BAD swear word on her.

He eventually came to the phone and had a go at me! He said it was my fault the box wasn't there. I asked him to apologise and then he took the most sarcastic tone of apology ever. He was very rude, aggressive and bullying. Not wanting to offend him as I needed the box, I asked him if it would still be delivered. He said Monday then hung up. I called back to confirm and was greeted with Jenny in tears, poor woman.

Of course, Monday came and went with no box. I spoke to Jenny again and she told me he had said to her 'I'm not making that bloody box, how is your boyfriend going to feel now?'

I then recorded a conversation with Robin Fisher, the man I spoke to on Friday, but he hilariously pretends to be someone else! I told him I was recording this call and was going to podcast it and he accepted that. Because he knew it was a recording, his tone was completely different. But guess what, the box and refund he promised still haven't arrived.

    A nasty piece of work.

  • Thanks for this thread. I am about to buy boxes and I used A1 about 6 years ago. I recall that the boxes were fine and that they were delivered on time. I wondered whether their customer service had changed as the offers had and I don't like this "clearance box" thing - tell me what boxes I'm going to receive - tiny boxes are no good when I need large ones - so I did a quick search on here and found this thread.

Now I'm not going to use A1 because I cannot do with the potential hassle.

    Cheers!

from the sounds of things they can't even manage the free guaranteed delivery
  • I recently ordered boxes from a1boxes.co.uk and here is my story. I was in a hurry and didn't find this web site until it was too late. I didn't have any problems with delivery or the number of boxes that were delivered.

However, the QUALITY of boxes were plain shoddy and cheap. They easily bend and won't be able to carry any amount of weight for moving household goods.

I cannot recommend this place due to the quality of boxes they use. I'll probably get plastic crates for hire next time I move.

Get lost will you! Everyone knows you work for A1 boxes! Why is it that companies always come onto threads complaining about them, sign up a brand new account, and then post a glowing review thinking we'll all fall for it.

For the love of.... your post actually sounds like a mr. muscle advert: now all you need is someone strong? Makes me want to throw up, it's so naff!
My wife and i have just purchased a box pack from www.a1box.co.uk and the service was very good. We ordered online and we wern't asked for any extra money, we ordered a large box pack with 2 extra wardobes, we placed the order at 5.45pm the day before and we got delivery at 8.15am the next morning, the price included next day delivery and vat.

Also we have been looking for someone to make us a box to put our grandfather clock in, and A1 have said they can make it, so we have now ordered that form them, the only problem i can see is getting the clock into the box, i need someone strong!!

I have used mad4boxes and they are fine - cheapish, decent boxes, quickly delivered. If you are having a removal company ask them if you get any free and about buying extra boxes - they may be used but will be very strong and cheap.
