I have been hand sewing an ufo knitted top all evening and breakfast is sorted as I am out the whole day tomorrow, wood carving, I am loving that craft and am a keen learner
I put the gold twill away in my new airing cupboard space, it was nice to have another feel of it, since I hung it over the bannisters to air. It feels lovely and I have decided it is perfect for a top 64, so will make one in gold and one in red. Flissh I hope you get to MnM, we want to hear every last detail
I`ll be busy for a few days now, lots of driving too, so will have to stay away from even thinking about sewing0 -
Enjoy the wood carving Kittie, that sounds interesting. What is a 'top 64' ??
Thanks for the link to style arc. I love it! I have seen quite a few patterns I would like to try. Think I will have to go for the PDF versions, if I ever get a printer cartridge. We have had one on order for days now was supposed to come last wednesday but things like that are impossible here Grrrr!
Yep, I am looking forward to getting to MnM, not long now.0 -
You`ll see top 64 at MnM flissh. It will be a very useful layering top for me.
Amazon do some stylearcs, they are better in that you get 3 sizes, so it is easier to grade for sizing0 -
A lovely day today and am feeling on top of the world. Will be going to give a grandaughter some sewing lessons later. Was shattered yesterday after carving but a good nights sleep, 8 hours these days after settling back into a calming hobby, sewing. I realised that I needed a good apron so have removed three big pieces of thin bendy canvas from the box in the back of the car. The boxes are still full but the canvas will make perfect aprons. Ooh, just thought, not just for me but christmas presents. Canvas is nice and was originally from ebay for when I was making myself tool rolls. I can always mix and match ie contrast pockets from odd bits. I only need apron length. Maybe I will also make half length frilly pinnies, I already have a pattern and stash fabrics
Its always good when I can get christmas presents out of the way0 -
I love making aprons! A really satisfying and quick project and a great way to use up stash.Norn Iron Club member 4730

Thanks for the links Kittie. That fabric looks lovely. I'll be on the south coast (near Rye) so will head to Tunbridge Wells to see my daughters, there are a couple of fabric shops there They are not that great to be honest but hey ho! I'll also have a snout round Brighton/Eastbourne way maybe. Marchant & Mills are in Rye so I will pop in there as well.
Just coming out of lurkdom on this thread to say that I'm in Eastbourne but there is a Fabricland shop in Brighton, just along from Churchill Square on Western Road. Not been for ages, but I used to go there to get some very reasonably priced fabrics!Otherwise we have C&H fabrics here and also what was the Owl & Sewing Cat shop (behind the Grand Hotel on the seafront) but is now under new management and called Stitch of Compton Street. Gorgeous fabrics there... (although less 'budget' prices).

squggly, welcome. Please lurkers, come and join us. It is quite hard to keep the thread going with just a few posters and I can see us giving up over time, seems pointless when not many join in conversations about sewing. There are other sewing forums that me and others can join
I took a lands end coat out of my wardrobe today, one of those spring/autumn 3/4 coats. showerproof with a hood. Wore it yesterday and remembered why I don`t wear it, its horribly sticky and too hot, doesn`t breathe. As new, pale cream and I measured the zip against that on the lovely ottobre parka that I made and love. Same length zip, so not cs destined, zips like that are expensive so I have massacred it. Took 3 zips out, neck fasteners and two draw ties with toggles. All I have to do, on a rainy day, is to tidy these bits up and put them in a zip lock for another future parka and I have the pattern cut and ready from last time. The zips and drawstrings are beige, so will go with lots of colours. The lands end fabric was hot and sticky polyester, there is a backing on it hidden under the hot polyester lining and lots of hot interfacing. Vile fabric for a coat, looked nice but I bet loads were never worn. The parka I made is fab, made in cotton lined gaberdine, maroon outer with owls on a black lining, was worth the effort of copying from the multi multi sized ottobre pattern sheet. Being old fashioned gabardine, it is showerproof. The cotton weave tightens if it gets damp0 -
I'll come out of lurkdom again, don't want the thread to die, I love reading it. I just think no one will be very interested in what I am doing!
I have just finished edging some nice soft fleece and machine embroidering a name on it to make a little blanket for a puppy that we pick up next week. It is going to be sent to the lovely breeder for the puppy to sleep on for a few nights so that she doesn't feel too strange when she comes here.
Next project is a pet sling, she is tiny and can't walk far yet, so it will be nice to be able to take her out when I walk with my other dogs.
I live in East Yorkshire and fabric shops are pretty thin on the ground here, I buy most stuff online, thanks Kitty for recommendations, we often go away in the caravan and I wondered if anyone knows of any good warehouse type places that sell fabric? I'm not bothered about cheapness, you get what you pay for, I would like lots of choice though. It is nice to feel the fabric before you buy.0 -
Hi All,
I am new to sewing (well trying to resurrect from when I learnt at school). Does anyone have any suggestions for sites that sell relatively cheap fabric/fat quarters? Whilst I'm practising I don't want to spend a lot of money and ruin expensive fabric!
Many thanks0 -
I've been lurking for ages, I love reading what everyone is up to. I'm pretty much self taught, never taken a class but read and followed lots of tutorial type things on various websites/blogs. I've not done any serious sewing for a while as the only place I can sew is on the table in the living room which is also the table we eat at, do homework at, play with playdough at, do gluing and sticking at etc etc! Also my sewing supplies are all very inaccessible at the moment
. we are trying to sell our house atm and one of the highest priorities for me in our new house is a sewing studio, either a spare room inside or some kind of shed/workshop in the garden. My most recent makes were a dozen toddler sized graduation gowns for my youngests nursery class and some letter bunting as a thankyou gift for the nursery teachers. She starts school fulltime in September and my hope is to set up self employed as a dressmaker/alterations and repairs, I also harbour dreams of owning a wardrobe of entirely self made clothes. The next thing I need to make is a winter coat, a few years back I made a butterick 50's style coat that was made on the sewing bee by the deaf welsh lady, I loved it and got so many compliments on it but I wore it to death and at the very least it needs re lining as it won't manage another year!
