Test drive on the 11th
Still not made my mind up whether to go for the diesel @ 80+ MPG or the petrol @ 57 MPG with cheaper pump prices0 -
Less than 15k miles per year for petrol is a good rule of thumb. I would knock 20% off any claimed mpg figures.0

The tide seems to be turning quickly on diesel cars. I certainly wouldn't buy one now.0

Absolutely. More and more cities are talking about banning diesel cars altogether from early/mid 2020's, or taxing them heavily. The way things are going, diesel cars will become increasingly difficult to sell second hand. Added to that all the DPF problems for low mileage diesel cars, and for most motorists doing a lowish mileage, diesel is becoming a bit of a white elephant, imho.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0 -

Honest John has the diesel as getting closer to 59mpg in real life, and petrol at 49mpg - http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/realmpg/dacia/logan-mcv-2013
Hitting the target mpg in most small engined cars is essentially impossible. I can get to about [51mpg] mine at 50mph on an empty stretch of flat motorway once it's properly warmed up, but go near the throttle or a hill and it'll pretty much half.
At the mileage/budget you're looking at, I'd go with the petrol unless you really need the torque from the diesel engine.0 -
I'm only using the claimed mpg figures for comparison as I have always found that I tend to get a little more than they claim anyway, must be the way I drive
:T
I currently average between 58 and 66 mpg in my Corsa 1.3d depending on how the motorway/town driving is split during the course of a single tankfull.
A quick calculation based on claimed figures has the petrol costing £0.092 /mile and the diesel costing £0.069 /mile and as it is a low emmission engine which qualifies it for no road tax and I seldom if ever drive in cities anyway there will be no problem that way.
As for resale value, that won't even come into it as it is likely to be my last car unless something drastic happens.0 -
After the test drive yesterday I have decided to get the diesel version, I am just going for the entry level Ambience though, I have squeezed as much out of my budget as I can but just can't make enough to get the Laureate0

Are you sure on the diesel on 6000 miles a year?
and....
"London has announced a £12.50-a-day charge for diesel cars entering central areas of the capital — on top of the congestion charge. Other cities, too, are considering charges or outright bans for diesels."0 -
A big mistake to buy a diesel on 6000 miles a year, imho. You're asking for DPF problems not to mention the increasing hostility to diesel cars which will probably mean extra tax on diesel fuel soon along with other anti-diesel measures. Motoring experts I've read advise an annual mileage of at least 15,000 - 20,000 to make diesel worthwhile, and that was before all the recent controversy surrounding diesel cars.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0

I have had my new Logan for about 7 weeks and there has been no issues so far :T
I am enjoying the extra space and my dog seems to be comfortable in the back as well.
The lower revs took me a week to get used to and I can no longer drive about town at 30mph in 5th gear as I did in the Corsa.
I did mostly town driving for the first 4 weeks while delivering phone books and I was getting 55mph so not too shabby for having that weight in the back.0
