Theres a load for sale on autotrader which suggests otherwise.
Depreciation wise they're broadly in line with most other stuff out there.
The diy approach may work for you but speaking from a motor trade persepctive it's going to add £0 to the resale value and not be as cost effective as you seem to think for others.
A UN spec white with black bumpers and steelies would stick out like a sore thumb on the roads. I'd prefer the benefit of some factory fitted creature comforts and the relative anonymity on the road when you'd be driving one.forgotmyname wrote: »What would the neighbours think if you bought the base spec one?
And when the rust starts on a white one oh dear. And the rust wont be far away.
Add that to the one of the few cars that rust.. Mercedes, Ford KA and any Dacia.0 -

I've got one. A 0.9 Laureate which comes with stop / start / cruise control / A/C and bluetooth.
We have a mobile towbar fitter here who charged me £360 to come to my house and fit my last towbar (in a Meriva) Dacia provided a towpack which gave a towbar, roofbars and feet and a luggage net for £300.
We bought it and 4 weeks later did 3000 miles towing a caravan around Spain and France. I was very sceptical - a car under 1 litre towing a caravan? Rated for 1150 kilos and we have an old caravan at around 900. It did very well. You need to stir the gears on long inclines, but apart from that it was fine.
The main benefit for us is for dog. We have a standard poodle. Bigger than a lab, though not quite as heavy. The estate is long and slightly narrow, but has a lot of space. We bought a German dog-guard which cuts the boot in half. He gets half and we have half left for jackets / boots / shopping etc. He also did our European trip and it all worked well.
Previous car was a Zafira. We intended changing to another but at 3 years old there were no deals available, the dealer treated us very poorly when we went to view, and then wanted £18,000 to upgrade. In a kneejerk reaction my wife said she didn't want one and persuaded me to go and look at a Dacia. Plan was to look at a Duster - but the Logan seemed better for dog so we landed up buying it.0 -

Personally, theres some creature comforts i just "like" in a car these days.
For me, i'd go at least one above base just so it blended in more, not to "impress" the neighbours. Doesnt say much for your neighbourhood if a Dacia is going to set the curtains twitchingforgotmyname wrote: »

Not ANY Dacia no, some early Dusters from a specific factory had issues. Dacia took steps to resolve that and its no longer an issue0 -
The white early Indian built Dusters had the rust issue. Production of RHD models was then moved to Romania.0

Thanks for the tips guys :T
I am looking for a practical car rather than something to look at so that has to be kept in mind, I now find that I am carrying more passengers and I am also looking to get a dog, hence the need for an estate car rather than just a 5 door hatch.
Main points that I need are legroom in the back seats, decent fuel economy and about 8/10 years of worry free motoring @ 6,000mls/year0 -
Logan is the same legroom as the sandero. Don't believe the five adults claim here. With the front seats fully back there is just 14cm off knee room. Luckily I have kids so not a massive prob but def not five adults.
Have driven one and I'm still looking to get the 1.2. Build quality is ok and so many journalists revues and a five year warranty they must be fairly sure they are ok..0 -

Doesnt take much to get the curtains twitching around here, We dont need to inform them we are going away they seem to have a sixth sense and seem to know before we do. I like booking at the last minute, earlier this year i booked on the morning of the day we were going. Booked at 7am and left the house within the hour.
They already knew we were going away.
Reminds of of the comedy show where they have (Michael Cain the nosey neighbour). He would fit right in.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
