To be honest I think I'd try the restaurant first. For all the legal ayes and noes the personal touch often works well. If you approach them in a reasonably friendly manner you may get a result.

I had an issue a bit like this a number of years back - I rang them and said something along the lines of "in the cold light of day that does seem a bit unreasonable" and they quite happily offered me a free bottle of wine which I picked up

I certainly agree with the others about the difference between £28 and £60 but it might save some angst and trouble if you rang them - rather than writing or emailing

    So let's get this straight:
    NotRichAtAll posts attempt at joke
    Pollycat posts attempt at joke
NotRichAtAll has the massive over-reaction of the year for no apparent reason

Or is there a post missing in the middle of this that would explain what's going on?

Please put a cork in it and stop wining. The OP may have made a pour decision but the situation isn't as red and white as it may seem.

Don't forget to leave them a review on Tripadvisor

That is what I would do - give them 1 out of 5 - explain why - they might refund to get you to change review!
