Ryanair 4 pound check in charge? Must book tonight!

I'm trying to book a flight from stansted to Milan return.
I have selected no travel insurance and NObags to check in. If I choose airport check in it charges me 4pounds but won;'t let me select the online check in to avoid the 4 pounds! It allows it to be selected but before I can move to next screen a box pops up saying my option can't be choosen!

As per error box, no infants travellng and no sports gear being taken etc

You have to select no bags, check-in online, priority boarding.

Obviously you are only allowed hand luggage up to 10kg.

Do you hold a valid EEA/EU passport or valid EU/EEA Government issued National Identity Card in order to check in online? (Driving Licence not accepted)

alared that's exactly what I did. And the price came up as 0.00 as it should but when I clicked NEXT or CONFIRM (forget which) it came up with this error box saying either Im travelling with infants or w/ sports gear etc

sounds like a bug in the website?

I hold a valid EU passport and said yes to this

One of the reasons given as to why I can't check in online (therefore making it free) is that for 'security reasons' this flight/route cannot be checked in online.

Has anyone else come accross this? Perhaps not as I think Ryan Air have switched the charging structure round to now charge those checking in manually

Can I just ask whether if you were to book tonight for online check-in, do you need to enter passport details on booking or when you actually check-in to fly?

Just tried STN to Girona and it allowed online checkin

ahh just seen it charges only for flights departing from italy! does''t allow online check in. Means u have to book 2 sngle flights othrwise site assumes both flights are FROM italy not 1 to and 1 from. Scam!
real price should equal 2 pounds not 4.

wonder if how they've approached this is legal? very misleading

I've just tried stanstead to milan and a box does come up saying "Unfortunately, this service is not available due to one of the following restrictions:

-One or more passengers has selected to check in baggage...
-There is an infant booked to travel
-There are nine or more passengers booked on this reservation
-For security reasons the route selected is not available for online check-in"

Never seen this before and I can't see any way round it.
