I am normally very organised with my freezer; I have a list of the contents on a spreadsheet, divided up into the four drawers, so that I know what is where.

    Monika was my fav :rotfl:

Never quite got the idea to cheat freezers, they work fine if you have stacks of the same stuff...i.e. Are a freezer centre, or you need to store a dead body ;) but aside from that as chirpycheap says, you have to dig in it every time you want to get something.

I am toying with the idea of doinig the Xmas food 'treat' shop today with a view we will eat that before Xmas then have LO from Xmas dinner after 25th.

I have to confess, I've never watched Friends. :o

I get frightful lupus-induced (and if I'm honest morphine-induced) brainfog, so I have spreadsheets for absolutely everything.

I'm soon going to have to devise a spreadsheet to keep track of all my spreadsheets! :rotfl:
ETA I've never used a chest freezer; I'm quite short, and not terribly steady on the ol' pins, and I have visions of leaning in to reach something at the bottom, overbalancing, and falling in head first!

  • Ahhh, I thought after over a year the fish may be tummy swirling, but if it won't make me and DS ill we'll certainly eat it.

That's pretty cool to think your old freezer is going to Kenya Chirpy.

I too replaced my garage chest freezer with an upright one, the best thing I ever did. Nobody ever actually uses the things at the bottom of a chest freezer EVER, do they?

I've been out shopping most of today so didn't get much chance to tackle the freezer, but by a little judicious jenga action I have managed to free up one whole drawer so I am very pleased. A good start, and I have identified several things I can use on a re-jigged menu plan this week so that should free up a second drawer, giving me enough room to put some Christmas goodies in there later in the week.

My challenge for tomorrow is to have a go at sorting out the two drawers at the bottom of the fridge/freezer in the kitchen as they have frosted up a bit (and are so crammed full of who-knows-what) that I can scarcely open them. I wonder what delights I will discover there? Stay tuned, fellow freezer pals ......

This is the thread where we support and encourage each other in our attempts to organise/clear our freezer stocks. I will be posting in the coming days looking for inspiration for how to use up the items I unearth from mine, and would really love some OS recipe suggestions from you along with hints, tips and general freezer banter.

Everyone else with a cluttered freezer, do please join in the fun. Also suggestions for preventing this happening to me again would be welcome. Last January I tried sticking a whiteboard to the front of the garage freezer to keep an up-to-date inventory, but that lasted a week.

OP have you thought about an app on your phone to keep track of everything.?There are a few specifically for freezers

Three freezers here. I keep a book with everything listed, although it does get oveerlooked from time to time.

I decided to empty the freezer yesterday and repack in an orderly fashion, apart from finding 2 bags of sweetcorn (ideas to use up would be appreciated) I spyed a glimpse of white shelf when I had prepacked it all.

Then Hubby comes home with half a goat!! After a bit of knife wealding, I managed to wedge it in there - looks like we are having Goat for Christmas :D

    Sweetcorn fritters?

Edit : mentioned several times already. Nice with chilli and Fajita type meals.

Bite your tongue :D That's what UFO nights are for! It makes for hilarious evening meals.

I'm with LW on the spreadsheet thing. I have an app for my storecupboards and fridge, but spreadsheet for the freezer. Unfortunately - I was down 3 portions of soup when I went hunting today.

I'm desperately waiting for a cold snap so I can do a de-frost. But in the meantime I THINK I have fish pie for dinner. Otherwise it could be an apple crumble?

What did dinner turn out to be in the end, FBO?

My worst nightmare would be getting something unlabelled out, and finding it's dog food left over from Corrie and Fingal's stay. :rotfl:
They're the two little dogs I referred to in post #5 on this thread, btw.:o

Their meals are probably tastier than some of the UFO's (Unlabled frozen objects) that I found when clearing out my old chest freezer :D
