2024 let's do this !!0 -
I'm on pre-Xmas empty. Lots of odd bits and pieces to use up. I have a spreadsheet which I THOUGHT was fairly up to date, but I'm missing 2 tubs of fiesta chicken soup and 2 of Seafood Chowder. Which is unfortunate as I have a guest for lunch tomorrow and I've now only got one of each. I'll have to give her first choice and have the other:rotfl:Goals - Weight loss 6/26lb at 22nd Jan 18Mmmm. 26lb at 1/7/18. Oops:o0

I used to be really good and know exactly what we had, on what shelf etc ... and suddenly I have no idea! OR I buy something, put it in the freezer and forget! I also cook large meals during the week and freeze portions .. and then, somehow, rarely get eaten!
my aim between now and Christmas is also to get freezer emptied or random tubs! ( all labelled which is something! )0 -
I've been trying to run down my freezer. I freed up a drawer, then overbought stuff! I'm now 2 drawers emptied! I too have a load of sweet corn. Given mum broke her wrist twice, once outside my house and once stopped by to drop off the dog on the way to the hospital. It made a good cold compress, although the hospital thought it funny. Got some left, as well as spinach, petit pois, 3 fish fingers, a fish that's been in for over a year (I won't be eating that!), banana bread, A small bag of chips, some ice cream that I'll be helping on it's way soon, a big bag of mixed berries, 2 packs of ys pancakes, ice pops and some strawberry splits from the summer. I used a pack of mince and some baguettes to make lasagna and garlic bread which was dinner tonight and will be dinner for tomorrow. My parents have masses in their freezers... They are like I've been and buying much more than needed and chucking the extra in the freezer, then buying more. I'm glad they're not putting stuff in mine! I'm hoping to defrost before Christmas. Living the high life!0

Am i the only person on here who does like sweetcorn? great in egg fried rice. Do prefer the tinned stuff to the frozen though but I will eat either quite happily.Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

Buy dried butterbeans and chickpeas they said. Much much cheaper than tinned.
So I did. Cooked a load of them being as it would use the same e amount of gas as cooking a few.
You can freeze them they said. So I froze them so that they were always to hand to make all sorts of delicious concoctions.
But of course over time the bags split and there are beans and chickpeas scattered throughout.
Tinned butter beans and chickpeas for me from now on.0 -
Franalamadingdong - no reason not to eat the fish which as been in the freezer for more than a year, the texture will have changed but i'm sure it would be fine mixed with other fish in a fish pie or fish pasta bake - I'd certainly use it that way rather than just throwing it away.

I'm currently defrosting a guinea foul that has been in my freezer either one...or two years  if all else fails it will become casserole and curry.Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

I decided to get rid of the chest freezer that was in the garage. It was like an archeological dig in a frozen tundra every time I went I to it. It has taken me six long months to empty it. We advertised it last week on Gumtree and sold it to a very nice lady. She told us that she was sending it to her mother back home in Kenya. The freezer would act as a packing crate and they would fill it with supplies. The £100 shipping fee she assured me made it cheaper than sending a crate and buying a freezer in Kenya.
So there you go. My outside freezer is gone and my inside one is now full to the brim with the remainder of the unloved, unidentified stuff from the old freezer.
I need to reduce even further as there is currently no room for any Christmas treats!Stashbusting 2019 - 230/3000 -
I'm so glad it's not just me:o:o. I used to have the most disorganised system. I never labelled anything and had a chest freezer that was like the black hole!
Picking up tips on here I do label things now and I have an inventory list on my phone which I do keep up to date most of the time (although I did spend ages rummaging around for spag bol sauce that was on my list but clearly was no longer in existence).
I've also sold my chest freezer and now have an American style fridge freezer with shelves and drawers. It's smaller but works so much better for me. It's also in the kitchen and not the garage which is lovely. I have an undercounted freezer in the garage that I was given as a freebie and I switch this on and fill it if I've got a glut of something otherwise it's empty and switched off.
My problem is I freeze leftovers and extra portions and batch cooking but I don't use it up as I should so I end up adding more and more.
I'm hoping this thread will focus my efforts on using up. I'm aiming for empty enough to clean out properly in four weeks. We'll see..
