I helped my daughter and son get a new Virgin installation in Black Friday week. A helpful rep gave us a direct Manchester number and we used this on several occasions

The BF rate of £18 rather than £27 per month was agreed. When the contract came through it was for the £27 per month

Tried the Manchester number today (Monday 5th) but it continuously rings with no replies?

If anyone else has had problems with the BF deal I would like to hear also anyone else not getting through on the direct number given at setup rather than the main help number?

Hoping a Virgin rep is reading the forum.

TIA

Vigman

    There is no such person.

Even the official BT representative hasn't posted for many months and he was quite active here.

Use social media, like Twitter or Facebook if you want that kind of response these days...

After passing through 4 Virgin departments, it was explained that although I had verbally agreed £18 pm BF deal three days BEFORE Black Friday, then the contract paperwork with full price was already generated with £27 pm on it.

Customer Services advise actual DD is £18 and not to sign and return the contract as my phone call is now the verbal contract.

    Hope this helps someone else

    Well I wouldn't trust them.

They do like to say that the paperwork with contract written on it is meaningless.

And by the time u find out it's too late

I would tell them u want to cancel within 14 days unless u get updated correct paperwork.

Or cancel 1 of them at least

Thanks for that. A request for updated paperwork is not a bad idea even though Customer Services read out the £18 pm charge from their end!

not sure if my input would be much use but if you're worried about it you should still be in your cancellation period and you could then just go back direct to their website using this exact link http://store.virginmedia.com/quick-checkout?productCodes=P105086 enter your postcode, pick your address and then it will forward you to your basket where it shows £18mth for 12mths plus 14.99 activation fee for the 50mb service without phone line. There is also £30 odd cashback available through quidco, what i did is first go to the virgin site with the above link and get in my basket, in another tab go to quidco and then click through quidco and the forwarding tab quidco opens should dump you back in your basket, well at least it did for me! If it doesn't then just click the YOUR BASKET at the top right of the page.

Additionally carphone warehouse have the virgin 50mb on their website at £18 but you've got to ring a number, https://www.carphonewarehouse.com/broadband.html banner of the deal is on the right side of the page.

    Thanks dagsky that's useful.

If I were to book this in advance, for installation in a month's time, do you know when the 14-day cooling off period starts? I thought it was from the day of booking, but the rep is telling me it's from the date of installation

Sometimes contracts are given, using the regular rate, then a discount is applied to the account. I was warned about this when I joined Sky (free tv and broadband, but the contract listed the full prices, with the discount showing online).

One benefit to virgin of when contracts are given using a regular rate plus discount is that each of the several times in the year that they increase prices, they apply the increase to the regular rate but do not increase the discount.

Thus a £3 bi-annual increase of "only" 10% on a £30 contract becomes a bi-annual increase of almost 20% on the net rate of £18. Scumbags.
