Of course. But the reference to the National Assistance Act's provisions appears to still be good law, so there is probably something I'm missing.0 -

These policies cost very little monthly and gave piece of mind. I have been involved in the Funeral arrangements of 2 Parents in the last 6 years and both had Baby Policies dating back to the 1920s. These Policies paid out ample funds to cover all the Funeral costs with some left over. These Policies should be advertised/marketed to Parents as a way of helping out in dreadful circumstances, not expecting the Government to pay for it.
I was reading something which had rather horrific details on the Victorian way of treating such things - by some parents. Policies with some money left over after funeral costs were not a great idea! But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

I don't see why the parents should not have to pay, if they have the means. If they don't, then the State pays anyway.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

It's not clear what this campaign is about. I got the impression that the MP simply wants councils to waive fees for Cems & Crems if it's a child.
That was my understanding too, when this was covered on Breakfast a number of days back.
Manchester doesn't charge for cremations for children under 16. (source):heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls
