Sunday night, Freddie tells is it will soar, buy buy buy.
By 9.20am Monday it has fallen to £917.
It may not have been the expected result, but I prefer to buy after or during a fall if possible. I know, it's risky, but preferable to buying at a random unspecified time IMO.
I don't know if it was a good or bad idea (only time will tell I guess) but I went for the iShares Gold Producers ETF rather than a physical gold ETF.
I also bought some Close FTSE techMARK, despite the initial fee of 4.75% which nearly put me off, but I think buying at a good (hopefully!) time will more than make up for that (this will likely be held for the long term unlike the gold). It was either that or a FANG fund, but for some reason none of them appeal to me currently. Nothing in the global technology sector really jumps out at me, apart from the fund I bought.0 -
On a more serious note. The price of gold has dropped 12/15% in USD/GBP prices since beginning of July.
With the stated economic position of the president elect, showing that a massive expansion of the monetary base for the USD is on the cards, then I strongly suspect that further price drops for gold are a better bet than rises. If the Trump administration does what it has proposed, then I suspect there is a boom to beat all booms on the way.
Nothing like a booming bourse to work against gold.
I would suggest that anybody wanting exposure to gold take it steady. Either wait a while, or average in..._
Whatever you bet the market will do, bet that the opposite will happen ad infinitum. I can see both ways happening. We always come up with explanations of why this or that happens, but I doubt we truly know any better.

I was going to post that specifically in response to his post but I see it's (inadvertently) a bit more topical now he's been PPRed, not sure what will finally have tipped the mods over the edge?0
