When we went out for an office do there were two io only had soft drinks. One of the alcohol drinkers announced , when a kitty ford rinks was suggested, that the soft drinkers get their own drinks and not put into the kitty. Everyone thought that was a goos idea. so maybe you could suggest that anybody who wanted to could buy their own drinks.0

Problem solved! She called in and asked if I thought the unemployed family member was able to afford the meal. I decided to tackle it (yay - go me!). I said she could afford the meal, but had mentioned that she was worried about the drinks element. The first reaction was that she would pay for it, so I brought up the question of pride and a bit of a sensitive time. The next reaction was that she'd buy a basic drinks package, so everyone got their first drink bought, ask for jugs of water on the table, and then there would be a wine kitty. If people want something stronger, they can buy it at the bar. Job's a good un.
Thanks for every suggestion - if it hadn't been for the support on here, I don't think I would have said anything to her.
