9.30 has always seemed reasonable to me Islandman, after all it gets the commuters outta the way.
Stagecoach recently bought our local bus company, and insisted on the 9.30 rule, lots got off the bus first day they were told.
Christ almighty it's free a little bit of give and take don't do harm.

and another Council gives way to a slightly earlier start-up time:-

Kent County Council will from tomorrow, 30th June, allow use of free bus pass from 9am. irrespective of individuals views, I am quietly confident that changes could take place throughout the country.

I actually think it might be counter-productive. The buses are packed enough earlier than 9.30am with the poor devils who have to travel then to get to work - they don't need joy-riding pensioners clogging them up even more. Or that's what will be said if we try to go down this path.

Let's be thankful for the tremendous opportunity the free travel gives us, rather than wanting more that will inconvenience other sections of the community.

I've adjusted my working hours so I can generally use my Freedom Pass (London area travel pass, available from 9 am weekdays) to get to work.

However I do think that Councils paying for 24/7 travel for the over 60s is more costly than I want to pay for in my Council Tax. Both Ken and Boris promised that they would introduce this if elected. Paddick actually said he wouldn't - I voted for him as the more prudent choice.
