    UPDATE

It seems that everyone that is entitled to a pass (that has requested one) will be issued with a NEW card, in the last few days of March, in readiness for April 1st and they will come from central government. (Our council have not yet seen one).

    .

Whilst I do not doubt what you were told, I believe they are actually issued by local government, this will allow those councils, like mine, that wish to alllow use all day & not just off peak

Yes, I am aware of this. I didn't include it, but my wife is under 60, but is registered disabled and she has a card, and yes, I am aware that in many cases the carer of a disabled person is either free or shares the same concession. It varies quite a lot. Come to think of it, it might be useful to discover if anyone has the definitive list of concessions for both elderly and disabled.

Our local lollipop man showed me his bus pass the other day as he escorted me over the road :rotfl:and in the bottom corner it had 2 golden C's in the corner which indicated that two people could use that pass and that the normal over 60's pass only had one golden C. Do remember though this is for an Edinburgh bus pass but issued by the Scottish Executive.

edit to add a change of link from my above post as it is no longer working...

I now have discovered that it is to be a "swipe" card. See this link:-

Edinburgh Lass says "as he escorted me over the road", blimey, that's another illusion shattered. I imagined that you were still a young slip of a thing in your late thirties early forties.

As the scheme has been running in Wales for some 4 years it was difficult to find anything specific about it but it seems you apply via your local council. Over 60s and disabled people.

Normally if you already have a Concessionary Travel bus pass, you will have been asked to supply another passport quality and sized photograph of yourself to enable a new scheme pass to be produced for you. This new pass, effective from 1st April 2008, will be sent to you in March 2008, if you have provided the necessary photograph in good time.
