Yep. My favourite area to kick-off a few weeks in the region.0 -
Thank you everyone.
We are pretty much decided on Bangkok first and then Chang Mai.
But no idea which island/beach to stay at for the rest of the stay. We want a good standard of hotel but after speaking to someone who has been recently she said her hotel was beautiful but all the restaurants in the surrounding area were very expensive!
We want to be on a lovely beach with a good hotel but in walking distance of cheap local food. Any suggestions?0 -

The problem is that the "best" hotels tend to be surrounded by the most expensive restaurants due to the type of visitor they attract.
What sort of hotel did you have in mind and what is your budget? If you look at somewhere like Koh Samui, the most upmarket hotels tend to be out of the main resorts so you will need to use taxis to get around.
Personally speaking, some of the best accommodation I've had in Thailand have been the most basic. Sometimes a simple beach hut can be better than a 5* resort.0 -

I hadn't even considered a beach hut but sounds good I'll do some research thank you0 -

If you aren't bothered by the services a hotel offers, then I would consider a villa. The wife and I are booked to go to Thailand at pretty much the same time as your good self (27/3 until 17/4) and the cost of a villa for us was £675 with private pool, two en-suite rooms, aircon, wi-fi etc.
Whatever you choose I'm sure you will love Thailand, enjoy your stay!0 -
I've booked the flights. Wasn't just the price change that was a gamble it was also the flight lengths, if these flights sold out then it jumped from 16 hour travel time to 30.
So booked flight only for Bangkok 31st March to 14th April. Now I need to research hotels and modes of travel.
Flights cost £1787 for 3 of us from Manchester with Emirates.
Apart from booking the international flights, have you got a plan yet?0 -
Nope
I aim to sort the Bangkok hotel out this week at the very least so we hvae somewhere to stay when we arrive at least! I dont even have insurance sorted yet :embarasse0 -
