My TomTom is good for most things, but it struggles with my address.
I live in an area that is well populated, but even when I am on my street about 400m from my house, my TomTom will try to take me up and round another street, which is completely out of the way, and clearly not the quickest or shortest way by any means at all, it doesn't seem to recognise our street, its very bizarre. The street was made some 50 years ago also.
Can anyone advise what I can do to fix this? I am not in any danger of not finding my own house, but its making me wonder what else its screwing up with?

It's maybe using data that shows no access at one point and therefore routing you around it and for whatever reason the data on your street isn't tagged.
They all pretty much use the same data these days and is likely to be updated next time they do a physical sweep of your areaChange is inevitable, except from a vending machine.0 -
You can most likely do nothing to fix this as your device is reliant on maps that are out of your control.
Perhaps email the makers ?, but i wouldnt hold my breath for a fix0 -

My sentiments (and with the OP too)
When I go from Shrewsbury to Stoke, Tom Tom takes me along the A53 all the way
On the way back, it diverts me off the main road to follows single track country lane, then back onto the A53!
Go figure!!0 -

Don't let Tom Tom drive your car if he doesn't know the way.0 -
Garmin is just as bad at times: our last holiday was at a Bournemouth hotel and I drove there. No problem at all getting there all the way from rural Lincolnshire, then it sent me round in circles for 20 minutes. Anyone who knows Bournemouth, knows what a hassle driving around the town can be. Eventually I spotted the hotel, by going off the Garmin track.
Whenever I go somewhere new, I always use the Lifetime Updates via the computer to make sure I have the latest info. Does not always work....I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

A problem with all satnavs, regardless of make, & other than participating in map updates, you can't fix the machines.
You *can* go right on applying common sense! (Plus I've form for parking up, and approaching locals. My family cringe, but we Find Places & haven't got blindly stuffed in mud in Years...)0 -
As far as I can tell they all use the same data, no satnav can find my house & they all take you to the same place. I've so often been led up the garden path by satnavs that I rarely use one.
Years ago before satnavs the name of my road was wrong in all A to Z type books. I wrote to them all but they all blamed Ordnance Survey, so I wrote to Ordnance Survey & now the books are right. Could be coincidence of course!Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0 -
They say you shouldn't use your own address in your satnav anyway for security if it is stolen, though I can see it might be a problem if you want to direct people and deliveries to your home. Garmin had a function where you could report problems and suggest fixes and these were made available to other users in updates and permanently embodied into the maps later. They don't seem to advertise it anymore. It probably looked a bit slapdash.0

I put an address a few 100 yards away for home address, if you dropped your car keys / left them in the car or had them stolen from gym locker etc and they took your car with house keys they would find it a bit harder to find the house they have the keys for. Unlikely scenario I know, but every little helps.Mr Generous - Landlord for more than 10 years. Generous? - Possibly but sarcastic more likely.0

I know that a police officer can ask for MOT, driving licence and insurance, but- a credit-card sized driving licence is easy to carry around with other cards, so mine is never left in the car, and photocards no longer have a paper counterpart, and
- I don't see why the Police would ask for MOT or insurance these days unless they've checked the registration against the computer and already know you don't have them (in which case you won't be carrying them around either) and
- you have seven days to produce these documents at a police station in any case
