Bars of soap

You can make your soap last much longer by simply enjoying a bottle of beer, lager or cider then taking the bottle cap and pushing it into a new bar of (dried-in-the-airing-cupboard) soap. Make sure you rest the soap lid side down, but it keeps is out of the mush on the soap dish.
I've been doing this for years, since a friend gave me a posh bar with magnet attached (although I didn't have the magnetic holder.) I was intrigued, and when I got to the end of the bar and found out that it looked just like a bottle cap I treated myself to a nicely-lidded cider and kept the lid for my soap!!They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.0 -
What an excellent idea - and a good excuse for a bottle of Hobgoblin! :rotfl:
Of course, I'd have to get two bottles, as Mr LW and I each have our own soap......If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
I will look out for the Dr Bronner soap Caterina, although in my little town we don't have a Tk but there's one not too far away. I love that it's natural too, thanks. The Waitrose one has softened ...watch this space!0

Thanks for bringing up the subject. OH has used Imperial Leather for years, but recently I have thought it has started melting away though I unwrap it and allow to harden, and we use plastic soap racks so it doesn't sit in a gooey mess. I notice the shower is developing a greasy layer which seems to be residue from the soap and needs a pan scrubber to shift - yucky!
I've started buying the green (lemon) Pears soap, seems to last longer, doesn't make the mess, and none gets thrown out as old piece easily fits into new one.
I will try Dr Bronner when I see some for reasonable price - don't often get to TKM. I did wonder if any glycerine soap would be better than a cream based?0 -

So the next question is what soap can I wean Mr LW onto that won't cause this (I'm now convinced the IL soap is the culprit). Bless his cotton socks, he won't use anything that smells, as he says, "girly".If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -

I have been using some lovely exfoliating soap in the shower, but stick to Neutrogena for my face.
The next in the stash to be used is Abahna 'white grapfruit and may chang' normally £10 for a bar (imagine!) bought for 50p at a car boot sale. Probably bought as an extravagent gift to someone who only uses shower gel. I have a large supply of bath gels and oils given by close friends and family who all KNOW I only use a shower. Still, they look nice in the box and I do occasionally go to an hotel with a deep hot bath. MMMMM.Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14

Mushy soaps is the reason I've moved to liquid soaps in the bathroom, although I do decant half and water it down so it lasts twice as long.
I've got a stash of green Pears for the kitchen though can't find it anymore. It too goes mushy in the dish but I don't mind it so much in the kitchen.
Dr Bronner liquid soap is what I use in the shower, again watered down a lot. We're using Tee Tree at the moment and will be for ages as I bought a 1 litre bottle. In the past I've bought the huge ones (5l) but got bored with the fragrance after a while, and we don't need that much at one go anymore.
I mourn the passing of Knight's Castile in the shops even if it available online- but Dr Bronner's is a castile soap.0 -
Last year I found 3 bars of lavender soap at a car boot sale, for £1.00 and when I got home looked it up on the internet and it retails at £5.00 a bar. I have now started the third bar and hope it will last a good few months. I always look for posh soaps at car boot sales as lots of people just seem to get rid of them0
