Will a chromebook run any website?

As above, wondering why chromebooks seem so cheap?

Absolutely brilliant if the main thing you want to do is use the internet - I wouldn't use any thing else after having one.

No CD unit, and can't use one by USB either.
no USB printing support (as a rule, there are apparently a handful of exceptions)
No local storage - cloud/online only.
Locked down, can't install anything unless its from the Chrome store - if it ain't on there it ain't going on.

Not true, my C720 allows you to store local files in a folder that isn't synced to the cloud.

Yes, for the most part - to many that's an advantage rather than a disadvantage :)

If you fancy being slightly bold you can use something called crouton to install full Linux on most Chromebooks and switch between Linux and ChromeOS. That obviously gives you access to all the apps in the Ubuntu software centre.

I love my Chromebook, would definitely not go back to a Windows laptop at home (and cannot afford Mac). I have a decent amount of local storage (as in, I haven't filled it yet) and I've got quite accustomed to using Google's various online document editing software.

I've found one or two websites which don't like responding in Chrome, but that's not bad in a year.

Love my chromebook - I have had it two years and no sign of slowing. Use google docs and google spreadsheet for all I need to do . I also have some space for storage - usually the odd PDF and some images I download for inserting into documents. I do a lot of secretarial work for my Church - I am able to do flyers, invites, minutes the lot on google and then email as PDF to the lady who does all the printing.....
PDF easiest way of sharing documents as anyone can open them!!

Most chromebooks take a high capacity memory card as well as their on board memory

Thanks everyone, just been to PC world and looked at them as was undecided between a larger tablet (10" screen or bigger) or a small laptop/netbook, think Ive decided on a 2-in-1 small laptop

Any recommendations? I liked the look of the Acer R11 Chrome but it only had 2GB RAM?

Considering many low end Windows 10 laptops have only 2GB and run just fine (I have one) then a 2GB Chromebook which has a lower overhead operating system should run just fine too. I see at least half of the chromebooks on the PC World site only have 2GB so that one is not out of the ordinary.

Personally, I fail to see the attraction of Chromebooks, yet they seem to be ultra popular.

Rather than switching to Chromebook, it might be worth switching from Windows to Ubuntu or Linux Mint.

Chromebooks are pretty much zero maintenance and auto update. They are also very very simple - something you can't say about any version of Linux.
