My first spend day of the year and I have sucessfully tracked it all on an app. Hopefull tomorrow will add to spreadsheet as well.
I probably won't post amounts here as I find I end up comparing myself to others and feeling like I come up short even though I have no idea of their circumstances. Instead I am getting into the habit of tracking spends and trying my best to keep going all year. I'll also post any insights from my tracking. Insight from today is that as I purchase I need to extrapolate my spending. It struck me today that 'just' spending £10 a week on charity shop bargains would end up as £520 a year.....obvious I know but sometime light bulb moments are!

I'll add other categories as they occur to me or I need them. These are the categories I use on YNAB to track spending so I have just used the same here as it'll be easier in the long run to just update. I think I will aim to update on the last day of every month from now on.
  • I am really glad I joined this thread, as it is really going to help with getting on with the other challenges I've joined on here this year (12k in 2017 and virtual sealed pot). I always wonder where all of my money goes, and its becoming a bit clearer now. I hadn't included, actually I hadn't even thought of the money I spend weekly on things like kids' bus fares, gymnastics classes, drama classes etc etc! Just those three things in total add up to nearly £40 a week! which reduced my £150 budget quite a lot, but I'm going to stick at £150 a week for now and I'll increase it if I need to. I'm just determined to save a pretty significant sum this year :)

    Afternoon everyone!

I stumbled across this thread today - and thought - this is a really good idea! I already do a budget, and am managing to make some savings... and have just over 2K to clear on credit cards.

As an exercise in spending - I'm curious to see exactly where all my wages end up over the course of a year!

    Please may I join too?
