Help me get a parcel to NZ.

OK, long shot with this, my DW makes quilts, she has made two for our family in New Zealand. Looking at parcels to NZ it will cost over £120 to get them there!
Is there a cheaper way, could anyone add them to their luggage, if so how do I find people going there?
Any ideas?

  • Are you sewing drugs into the rugs and then asking others to transport them for you?
  • You want people to put packages into their luggage for you?

Can't see how that could possibly go wrong.

I'm pretty sure that one of the questions they always ask at check in/bag drop is 'has anyone asked you to transport anything for them in your luggage?'
Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the end

I usually have to answer yes to that question.

It doesn't seem to make any difference to how they treat me, apart from look at the items.
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

MAF (NZ version of customs) won't allow it.

I've used Ipostparcels to send to Australia last year, pretty big box, and fairly heavy, it was £21 for a 6 day service.

Shop around, and don't ask people to carry items into a country for you - it can land you and the transporter in massive trouble.

There is a long running parcels thread on the ebay board where it may be worth posting or getting this thread transferred. You will need to give the weight and dimensions of your wrapped parcel to get accurate quotes.
  • Thanks all, I have tried all the suggestions on the parcels thread,
DomRavioli, Ipostparcels comes in at £104.18 for our 4-5 days express service, I don't want express service, looking for a cheaper alternative, by sea perhaps???
  • Sorry but there's no way on this planet would I take a parcel from a stranger and take it anywhere, let alone on a plane, and espeically to a foreign country for them

What size and weight is that?

It may be worth using using a plastic bag that you attach to a vacuum to get the volume as small as possible.
  • If you can get them down to a size that people can swallow, you'll be laughing.
