I think a lot of this depends on the actual network that the providers use - the only network that does not seem to cause a lot of issues in my area seems to be three - o2, voda and ee seem to create a lot of problems with data connectivity as they seem more orientated towards minutes and text than data.

You forgot to mention its only 3g data not 4g

If you were paying £708 per year with o2, you must have got a phone included right?

So how is it a £612 per year saving?

this hits the nail on the head - anyone who stays on contract after the initial 24 months is mad as the handset often worth 600+ is now paid for

So save up and buy the phone outright.
Paying MORE money on a loan for the handset is throwing money away.

Yes, it might be difficult to save up... so miss out (for now). Or pay a stupid amount. As Graham says, the decision is yours.

If you haven't done it yet (for those who are thinking of switching soon), use a cashback website such as TopCashBack. My contract is £16.99 a month for unlimited texts, 200 mins and 12GB data. But, I also get £160 back in cashback and Amazon vouchers, so £43.88 for the year, or £3.66/month (not including the slightly higher first month payment).

And when I go on my year abroad next year I can keep on using it as the EU is scrapping roaming charges. Hurray!

    Link ti this deal ?

My phone plan has just finished.
I have just swapped to a BT SIM only deal on 4G, 12 month plan.
I now pay £8 per month (£96 a year) for 3GB, unlimited BT wifi, unlimited text and 500 minutes +£40 amazon or itunes voucher for swapping.
    Very Happy :):)
Why ever were you paying £708/year in the 1st place ?

I am currently with EE on SIM only deal of 2000 mins, Unltd text and 2GB of data which costs me £13.25 a month (I'm assuming my contract will go upto £16.99 when my contract ends in 3 weeks).

Update from me - I rang EE to find out what my options were (now that my 12 month sim only contract was coming to an end), and the call operator who answered looked at my account and ask me what I was hoping for, and I said to continue at the same price, however I suspect the loyalty discount I receive will be removed in December when my contract ends. So she removed any expiry date and said there you go, it will just continue at £13.25 ( 2000 mins, Unltd text and 2GB of data).

I'm happy, I don't think £13.25 per month is too expensive
