Wanting to buy a NEW iPhone 5 eBay?

Hi all,

I'm looking to buy an iPhone 5 32gb for Christmas, but I dont want a refurbished one.

Cant get a contract as I have very poor credit history.

I had a look on ebay, some claim to be new, but feedback states they are refurbished too. Others have Apple Warranty Expired. Others appear to be genuine.

Any advice? I'm really out of touch with Apple.

  • The iPhone 5 was released 4 years ago, the chances of getting a genuinely new one now must be very slim I would have thought.

    Look at a SE.

Very similar to the 5 and being made now
  • The SE is a good substitute and pretty affordable too, however if you genuinely want an iPhone5 then maybe instead of a refurbished phone you might consider looking at a second hand used one? I've found sites like 4gadgets sell 2nd hand used mobiles and they fully test them and clean them up. They also offer refurbished but clearly label which ones are.

Just an idea as i have used them before in the past and have been happy with what I've bought. phones i have received have been professionally packaged and look 'as new'
  • As others mentioned the iPhone 5 (and the later 5S) have been discontinued. As to how good a used one will be is anyone's guess.

The iPhone SE is the same size as the 5/5S and while not cheap, is a higher specification phone. I traded in our 2 x iPhones (5) for SE versions at an Apple Store in May this year and would recommend dealing directly with Apple, the prices are virtually the same as everywhere else but the service is spot on.
  • Decent deal on a 64GB SE today at Argos, £60 off.http://www.argos.co.uk/search/shop-iphone-se-at-argos/?!!!!!ar:iphonese:buy

Beware that Argos have stated in the past that their iPhones lock to the network of the first SIM inserted. I don't know if that really is the case or not, but buyer beware!

This is from the Argos Q&A on their web site a moment ago:
    "Hello Elena

I can confirm the Sim Free Apple iPhone SE 16GB Mobile Phone does indeed lock to the first network SIM used.

Thank you for using Argos Q&A."

AFAIK it's only Apple themselves as well as John Lewis who don't lock the first SIM inserted to the network when you're buying a SIM Free handset.

However £379 for the 64GB iPhone SE isn't too bad given the 16GB variant costs the same price.

The SE has similar internal specs as the iPhone 6s/6s Plus and would last you a few years too OP.

Edit: for the same handset John Lewis are wanting £429.

knowledgeable folk here say that Giffgaff supplied iPhones also are properly unlocked. iPhone 5s is still sold new by giffgaff.

It must be (very) old stock. Apple stopped selling the 5S after the SE came out 6 months ago

Not only that any old iPhone 5s stock is limited to 16GB of storage from what I can gather.
