New home owner (Parking dispute)

Me and my partner recently bought our first house it's on a culdesac which is one way around we live at the end of the bend outside all the houses there is a dropped curb for every house to have drives put in. It used to be a council house around 10 years ago since the original person bought the house I think we're now the 3rd person to own the house.


Out side our house and all other houses around the bend there's the standard public footpath which is grey paving slabs then for each of the dropped curb it's a red tarmac (I'm assuming this is for parking for the house) It's a one way for the bowling green in the middle and the road isn't wide enough t park on the road for cars coming around but we keep getting work vans and cars parking outside the house which is becoming frustrating because we then have no where to park our car and have to drive down another street to find space this is all public footpaths.


I'm wondering what peoples thoughts on this are I'm sure I'm in the right but would like a second opinion to be honest I don't care when I'm at work or out but my partner has text me and the van is there again and doesn't look like it's going to move any time soon. I'll try and post a picture to show better also to make it worst he parks outside and then walks off he isn't even a next door to us or further down. I'm also going to contact our solicitor tomorrow as this wasn't mentioned when we bought the house but I'm sick of arguing with people that park there and say they've done it before.

  • You have legal rights to park on property you own.
    Look at your deeds or land registry plan.
    If the land is not on your registry or deeds then you have exactly the same right to park as anyone else in the country does.

  • So what if we have a drive in? We've just received our papers from the solicitor but it doesn't actually show the outlines of what we own and our solicitor is a nightmare to get a hold of I'll have to go into the office tomorrow.

    They can park outside your house - is that what you are complaining about? You only own the land the house & garden is on, not the street outside.

    Yes, if you had a drive people aren't susposed to park over them.

    I'm under no illusion we own the land outside or the road or any part of the bowling green the point I'm making is


    We're on a one way road if you imagine it's a giant U we're at the end so it's one way in starting on the other side every house has a dropped curb and it's red tarmac which indicated it's for parking because its one way the road isn't wide enough to park on and cars still get around. nobody else in the street has parking issues but people park on our spot (that we potentially don't own)

    Does the red tarmac cross the pavement so that people can drive across to reach their driveways? If it does then it is likely that the red tarmac is not a parking space for each property but just an access across the pavement for people to reach their drives. If this is the case then no one is entitled to park on there because that would block the pavement for pedestrians. It would be for access only.

    So if people park on the road outside your house there isn't enough space for other cars to drive past?
