  • It's called saving!!!

I empty my pockets every night and it goes into bags. When the bags are full, off they go to the bank and into the savings account.

The theory being that you don't miss loose change. Yesterday alone provided £7.70. Two £2 coins, 2 x £1, 3 x 50p and 1 x 20p. It works well for me.

It would be more use for everybody if you recycled your change by spending it in shops (instead of spending bank notes on small purchases).

That's at fewer stops will have to pay their local bank for bags of change and you'll have to queue in banks less often.

In the business world cheques are certainly not dead. Many businesses still issue cheques and so do public services.

What B2B does is their problem. If they want to waste time and money printing them and paying them in, that's between them and their shareholders.
  • It's the banks problem.

Banks make a lot of money from business charges.

It's not a very efficient way of saving. You're ending up with up to £80 in your pocket/a jar when it could be in the bank earning interest.

You could spend that £7.70 rather than presumably withdrawing another £10 from the ATM.

I take out £100 every Monday and that is my spending money for the week. If I run out by Friday, then I don't spend anything else. If I've £20 left by Sunday night, then I only draw out £80 on Monday morning. What is left at the end of the month is transferred to a savings account. And that's in addition to the coinage.

And by ensuring I never go into an overdraft ensures a £5 payment into my account by Halifax at the beginning of every month (soon to reduce to £3). That also goes into a savings account - another £60 a year.

In 2016? How many cheques per year does the typical customer get? I think I probably write about one a year and pay in a couple a decade. Why would I use one?

Not enough to make people actually use them.

Virgin Trains use them to refund you under their "delay repay" if the train is badly delayed. I think I've had 3 or 4 from them so far this year.

You gotta love comments where people essentially criticise how other people run their life...

For the record, Halifax is pretty naff - as is the rest of LBG. If you don't like it move, as I have just done - they're not a public service but a business.

I asked Lloyds who said, "No further updates, though we will register your interest"

Personally I think cheques should have been abolished years ago when they were supposed to be!.
Even my grandmother who is almost 90 years old prefers to use her debit card rather than write out a cheque.

I also think a machine should be developed that can dispense cash and coins and allow cash and coins to be paid in. This wouldn't be difficult to be made to replace certain cash machines. Then all bank branches could be closed.
