Why can't anyone open the attachments I send on my emails?

Make sure you save your work as a Word format file, otherwise your recipients will only be able to read it if they also have Open Office installed!

Have you tried sending a picture (as jpg for instance) either pasted in message or as an attachment? If so did that get through?

Thanks but how do I save my work as a Word format file? I just usually click save and name my work??

Click "save as" instead of "save" and you can choose the file format. You're looking for a format either called "Word" or ".doc".
