Online check-in woes - do I have a case?

So, OP, you had a smart phone with you. When you saw you couldn't check in on the app why didn't you use your phone to visit the website instead?Erm - why couldn't you use the web browser on your phone to check in?
To be fair, he would still have to have printed his boarding passes to avoid being charged.0 -

Actually they didn't touch your suitcase. It's the baggage handlers who handle luggage, and they aren't airline employees. They're either handling agency or airport employees.
Did you report it at the airport and complete a PIR as soon as you had picked your case up?
Avoid Jet2 if you wish. I've flown with them many times and never been anything but satisfied. I booked another flight with them a few days ago.0 -
not correct...here is a comparison http://www.opodo.co.uk/online-check-in/garythehutch wrote: »I don't like checking in that early, and besides with other airlines it's always 7 days prior. I didn't believe this and still don't.
Ryanair is the only one listed as 7 days...site needs to be updated as it is now 4 days0 -

No, he wouldn't have
What if I have chosen online check-in but am unable to print my boarding card at home?
Don’t worry – if you don’t have a printer you can choose the Mobile Boarding Pass option when you have checked in online. It’s really easy to send a mobile boarding pass to your smartphone.

just to shoot down the discrimination argument what about the numerous businesses who offer a discount for online billing? Energy companies do E tariffs, the trainline sell travel tickets online at a discount - some similarities.
If both yourself and your travel companion don't have an emergency debit or credit card when traveling abroad can I suggest this is something to look into in future.
I wonder if you or your companion did have the means to pay but you stood up for what you believed and refused to be held to ransom for extra money. If this is the case then well done for sticking to your principles, but don't expect anyone else - least of all a budget airline - to pay for your choices.
I think you have 2 chances of getting Jet2 to pay, no chance and no F'ing chance.
Sorry if its still not what you want to hear, I think if you'd paid up under duress you would have a much better chance of getting the £22 back - instead its cost you a lot more.Mr Generous - Landlord for more than 10 years. Generous? - Possibly but sarcastic more likely.0 -

It's misleading the customer.
No, because they have access to computers in libraries, through family etc.
Isn't that your assumption? Don't get me wrong, it's a fair assumption, but can't you argue they don't know how to use a computer or live near a library, their family don't etc?
You can't say I've made an assumption and then offer one yourself.
did you forget the bit where YOU posted an App screenshot with the relevant message writ large?
If you gave the airport staff the same feeling I get, of an attitude and a sense of entitlement, the outcome is no surprise.
Suggest you do actually read what you are buying in future. The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -
OP thread title is
Online check-in woes - do I have a case?
easy answer is no.0 -
Ok, despite saying I didn't need any further replies, I got some. I appreciate them actually; it follows the overwhelming opinion that I don't have a case and a lot of this is my own doing. I'd be arrogant to suggest otherwise. Too many to reply to though so I will give my final post on this.
Oddly, people I've spoke to in person seem to see my point. I do find that interesting - the dynamic between the Internet and in-person.
I'll say this though, I had learned by lesson. There were assumptions on my part - clearly. I've made them known from the start. I'm not going to suggest that there are elements of this haven't been my own doing.
I do still stand by my decision to get money later and fly with a different airline. As I've said, I really had no other choice anyway.
I've seen suggestions of entitlement and attitude and this can't be further from the truth - again, the Internet. Tones and attitudes can't really be translated over the screen. This is wrong, folks. I came here asking a question and I got my answer. I'm not going to suggest a bad attitude on anyone's part.
I still do believe, for the sake of customer service and understanding, and if you think about it, - a 6 inch piece of paper, Jet2 could have realised that I was stuck and waived the fee. I stand by that and nobody could tell me different. This was about someone getting home to family.
Last night, upon further reflection, I've decided to put this to bed and forget about it. Not before looking up a Spanish flower service and arranged flowers to be delivered today to the girl who thought I was swearing at her. Unfortunately, I've been told the flowers can't be delivered today so will be delivered tomorrow. I wanted to put that right wrong at least, because that was 100% on me - no matter the opinion on the matter at hand. She was a human being at the end of the day, with feelings.
I won't be replying further. This thread can be locked. Thanks again for everyone's contributions.0 -
Unless you walked up to complete strangers and explained to them what happened to you and asked for their opinion, it's probable that the people you spoke to in person didn't have the impartiality of posters on the internet.garythehutch wrote: »Oddly, people I've spoke to in person seem to see my point. It's not so odd I think, if you're face to face with someone (especially if it's a friend or family member) they are much more likely to say they agree with your point of view than someone you don't know writing on a forum. In that sense, you're likely to get more honest (perhaps brutally honest) answers from the latter group.0
